ASSIGNMENT 3 VIDEO PRESENTATION REPORT 2014
Introduction
In order to complete this psychology video assignment, we were distributed into a group of four
members who come from different stream which are architecture and quantity surveyor.
For this assignment, we are required to produce a minimum 5 minute video based on social
psychology concept which we learnt in lecture class. Besides, we were also required to write a report for
this video and present it in class. This project allowed us to recognize and identify the connections among
concepts and perspective within psychology. In addition, we can strengthen our understanding skill towards
these concepts.
Of course, we had tried to compromise with each other during this whole process. We collaborated to
become a cooperative team. We might not be the best one but we do enjoy the process. We appreciated the
chance given by this assignment which made us realize psychology is an interesting stuff.

Concepts
There are five concepts used in our video clip which are attitude, prosocial behavior, stereotype,
self-fulfilling, and lastly the halo effect.
“ATTITUDE”
Attitude is an evaluation of ideas, events, objects or people. Within the concept of attitude there are
three components to be represented which are affective, behavioral and cognitive and we call this ABC
model of attitude. We can find these three models of attitudes in our video clip. As Hazim sat beside Moon,
Moon thinks that he is not smart (affective) so she tries avoiding him when he asks some questions
(behavior). Moreover, she believes that Hazim is not a good student and therefore she keeps the distance
with Hazim apart whenever she meets him.
“PROSOCIAL BEHAVIOR”
Prosocial behavior is an action designed to benefit another person or group by sharing, helping and
more. For instance, in the video when the lecturer asked a question to Hazim based on the lecture he gave,
Hazim finds hard to answer his question because he couldn’t really understand the lecture he has given.
However, as Hazim struggled to answer the question the other classmates were kept very quiet and silence
because they think that one of them will help Hazim to answer but unfortunately no one did. After class,
Joanne decides her mind to help him how to answer the question (prosocial behavior). This is how
prosocial behavior works in a daily life.

“STEREOTYPE”
Stereotype can be defined as beliefs about particular types of individuals. Generally, stereotypes are
assumptions that people make about the features of particular members of a certain group usually based on
an image about what individuals in that group are like. From our video clip for example, the three students
who were sitting at the lake saw a black African passing by, and the first thing that comes to their mind was
he is dangerous because he is black. The stereotype here is all black Africans are dangerous and should
avoid them in order to be safe.
“SELF FULFILLING”
Self-fulfilling prophecy can be defined as the positive or negative expectation on a typical situation
or event that affects an individual behavior that it causes the expectation to come true. For example from the
clip when the people saw a black African passing by, our stereotype toward him they expect that he is a
criminal for stealing, kidnapping and murdering. However, the black African was on a newspaper the next
day due to kidnapping and rapping the innocent school girl at night the other day. So he was arrested by the
police department and sentenced to jail. This is the concept of self-fulfilling prophecy that as we expect
something it will really come true.
“THE HALO EFFECT”
The halo effect is the overall impression of us that influences how we feel and think about his or her
character or personality. For instance in the video, we had two new friends Brian and Moon joined in for
lunch at the cafeteria and one of them who was Brian was very hyper, smiles and laughs a lot and we feel
and think about him as a positive person however on the other hand Moon was a kind of a person who is
very moody, doesn’t smile much and very quiet therefore we feel and think about her as a negative person
due to these facts shown. This is the Halo Effect where we can see others whether they are good or not by
the impressions they give to us.

ASSIGNMENT 3 VIDEO PRESENTATION REPORT 2014
Conclusion
In conclusion, we learnt that how we should apply these concepts in real life. Besides, we had a
chance to cast and produce our own video. Sang Won is the only architecture student in our group. At first,
we misunderstood Mr. Shankar’s intention. We opined that it was hard to work together as we were having
a different schedule. Ultimately, we comprehended why Mr. Shankar would have this plan. We learnt to be
disciplined and not to procrastinate our work as we could hardly have free time to meet and complete this
project.
Nonetheless, we do not feel awkward anymore but in turn, we did build up a good relationship with
each other. Although we met some trials and tribulations, we still tolerate with each other and give in. We
tried something new which is video editing. Honestly, none of us were really into video editing stuff but we
grasped this golden opportunity to gain another skill.
We enjoyed our assignment so much that we put our best foot forward. Furthermore, we
acknowledged that actually every incident could have at least one concept in it. Slowly, these theoretical
concepts merged into our lives just like that. Also, we had understood how actually concepts and reality
come together in our daily life.
