Key options in the survey design and creation process
Survey Creation Options
8
There are several options to design a survey:
• Create surveys from scratch
• Copy an existing survey
• Use a template.
Items to Note:
• You cannot import a survey. However, you can copy and
paste from a document into the survey editor
question/answer text box.
• All templates in SurveyMonkey contain certified questions.
• While we don’t have a direct Poll creation option, you can
create a one question survey and turn on the Instant
Results feature at the end.
Design (Edit Survey) Options
9
In the Design (Edit Survey) area, you will find:
• Edit Survey: The design editor to create pages, questions, skip logic, etc.
• Survey Options: Additional options to add page and question numbering, add a progress
bar, select your survey language, create the navigation button texts, add a quota, etc.
• Question Bank: Access our library of question templates created by our survey
methodologists.
• Print Survey: Print a copy of the survey design as a PDF.
• Restore Questions: Restore deleted survey questions over the past 14 days.
What you won’t find here:
• End pages > These are created at the collector level in SurveyMonkey.
• One vs. multiple response settings > These are created at the collector level in
SurveyMonkey.
• Schedule survey close > You can manually close surveys at the collector level or schedule a
cutoff date in the collector restrictions.
• Share Results > This lives in the Analyze section in SurveyMonkey.
Survey Options
10
With each design you can enable Survey Options that allow you to set the following:
• Page & Question Numbering: Turn on or off the page and/or question numbering.
• Progress Bar Settings: Add a progress bar to your survey.
• Survey Page/Titles: Make the survey pages and titles hidden or visible.
• Survey Language: Choose from 58 languages for your survey.
• Required Question Highlight: Choose to mark your required questions by an asterisk.
• Display a Footer: Turn the SurveyMonkey footer on or off.
• Add Quotas to Your Survey: Set limits on how many responses you receive on specific questions.
Deployment (Collector) Options How to distribute a survey to collect responses
11
12
What is a Collector? After designing a survey, you are ready to send a link
to your audience. In order send a link, a collector
must be created. The type of collector you create will
determine how the survey is administered.
Any time you click the Collect icon or the Collect Responses
tab for a survey, you can view existing collectors or create a
new one.
A benefit of creating multiple collectors for a survey is to
enable you to reach different audiences. With each having
their own unique settings, they work independently of one
another to enable greater collection control. You can then
analyze your responses based on the collection methods
used.
