DESCRIPTION

Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems allow you to create a 360 degree view of all your interactions with constituents. CRMs help you track contact information, fundraising, demographics, membership levels, membership directories, volunteering, and communication. These slides are by Cat Monaghan of Idealist Consulting on using Salesforce for nonprofits. A recording from PDXTech4Good, a free monthly gathering of nonprofits, techies and activists in Portland, Oregon. More information: PDXTech4Good.org

Highly Robust CRM

•  Salesforce.com is a market-leading CRM in use by many small and large nonprofits and corporations

•  Being a market-leader means there is a huge community of people building and developing options for the system

•  Complex architecture means nonprofits can use the same system to track multiple processes: (i.e. fundraising and case mgmt. for human services)

Caveats

•  To be useful to nonprofits, Salesforce requires customization. Customization costs money, expertise or both.

•  Salesforce has nearly limitless capability, but the more complex a system, the more maintenance and administration is required.

•  Technology evolves. Organizations should expect and plan for ongoing system upgrades and process changes.
