Social media are sites that allow people to exchange and share
information
Social networks are the friends, family, coworkers and special
interest groups. It is a reflection of society however, these
'interest' groups can now more easily coordinate organizational
efforts.
All kinds of people are sharing information about emergency
situations.
Pics, text, video, sound all sorts of information is being
shared using phones, laptops and mobile devices, smart phones.
What makes SM so powerful?
Social media links people across man-made boundaries so that
people can link together and organizations can better coordinate
activities.
