Lingokoo Overview

Lingokoo Overview• Lingokoo is a picture dictionary website that will help English

language learners learn new words and how to pronounce them.• A picture dictionary which I call ‘Word Stories’ or a ‘Word Story’

will be released each week.• User interaction is incorporated in the ‘Graffiti’ section whereby I

will choose a photo from one of the ‘Word Stories’ and ask people who joined to submit via email a funny caption for the photo. I will then post the photo with the caption the following week.

• At least initially, I’m not planning on selling anything so at some stage, the website will need to be supported via an ad revenue model.

• Question– Assuming the WordPress DeTube theme is used,

what sizes can the banner be?

•Would like image icons to serve as buttons with text underneath naming the button.

•Questions:• Pixel size of the icons?


• Would like to have a subscribe/join box– Why join?• Get email/twitter/facebook updates when new word

story episodes are released• Only subscribers will be able to post a caption to a

picture (this will be the Graffiti section)

4. Word Story A (picture dictionary of the week)

• Each week I will release a Word Story (picture dictionary). The most recent release should be highlighted in the main window on the website.

5. And 6. Personal Boxes

• I would like to have 2 boxes to post information at my discretion. Examples of things I might use them for:– Post picture that includes the winning caption of

the week– Post picture of one of the characters in one of the

word story episodes saying something– General update of things to look forward to in

coming weeks

7. Social Networking integration

• Allow people to:– Get tweeter updates– Follow us and like us on Facebook– Subscribe to the YouTube Channel

• Question– Value in Google+?

8. Word Story Section

• Have the 6 most recent episode thumbnails.• It will take 6 weeks to have this section filled

up with episodes so what I will do is put a picture of the future episode and put the release date.

9. Ad Boxes

• Need support for advertising• Question?– How many advertising boxes should I have?

10. Graffiti Section

• The graffiti section will allow users to submit a caption to a picture that I will preselect ahead of time. I will then read the captions, select the best one and include it in this section.

• You will need to be a subscriber in order to submit a caption.

• Post the 6 most recent captions in this section. It will take 6 weeks to have 6 captions so initially I will just post 6 pictures to serve as placeholders.

11. Footer Section

• Give visitors another chance to subscribe to the website and connect with us via social media.

• Contact Us• Also include Privacy Policy

12. Privacy Policy/Disclaimer

• Question– Any recommendations for templates?

13. Search

• I assume this is a plug-in. Are some search plug-ins better than others, if so which would you recommend?

14. Contact

• Need a form that is spam proof– Recommendations?

• If on a different page then ‘Home’ should take viewer to ‘Home’

Word Stories

• By clicking on Word Stories, the user should be taken to a page that has all the Word Stories that have been released

Graffiti

• By clicking on Graffiti, the user should be taken to a page that has all the winning Graffiti captions

Other Questions• What am I missing?• How many ad widgets on separate pages?• The Graffiti section will be just pictures which means it probably

doesn’t make sense to post a 1 picture slide on YouTube– I’m using Bluehost. Would my pictures need to be hosted on Bluehost

or can I host the pictures on WordPress?• What is BuddyPress? Do I need it?• Do I need email management?• Do I need Sitelock Domain Security?• When should I apply to become a YouTube partner?• When should I apply for Adsense?

Other Thoughts

• Build for scalability in case I want to add other categories down the line
