feedback?

Demographic profiling-I needed to ensure my feedback would be responses from the right kind of audience;

my target audience. I need to establish my target audience in order to choice the best method to get effective and accurate feedback.

GRASS Gender- Male and females equally Race- Any race Age- 15-25 primarily Socio economic status- middle/working class

I decided to gain audience feedback on my final products using web 2.0 and social networking site; Facebook. I choose to use ‘Facebook’ because I felt like it was a source that would reach my target audience of young adult. Social networking sites are popular to my target audience and I felt like it was efficient way to record effective feedback. In my production planning I also gained audience feedback which allowed me to ensure the product would be appealing to my audience. In the production planning I used web.20 site ‘Survey Monkey’ this allowed me to create online surveys that I presented to members of my class. My mixed sex class were perfect examples of Faith Elliot’s niche target audience. The results from the survey helped me make technical and stylistic choices of my products. Along side these two methods I created a pitch that I also presented to my class to gain feedback upon my initial plans for my products.

Early audience feedback- The pitch!

The feedback I received from my audience suggested that I need to think about the story line and having the use of a appropriate storyline is important, as the video needs to be engaging. This constructive criticism influenced me to annotate the lyrics of both songs I was between for the production of a music video. I decided to look closely at the lyrics and what they could mean, also how I could convoy the message of the song through a story line. This is something that allowed me to come up with my final story line for ‘Unknown’. The idea of memories and reflecting shots to create a sense of passing time and memories is something I found out in my final set of feedback to be one of the strongest points of my video. This initial constructive criticism was something that really helped me towards my final product.

Another piece of feedback I received was how the audience embraced the idea of faith being a role model as well as a artist. This made me notice that faith needed to be relatable as a artist. This was something that influenced me to create creative decisions such as Faith’s style and the house colours I used. The final colour choices is something that changed from my initial thoughts on this pitch to my final texts. I decided to choose more neutral colours to allow the website and digipak to look gender neutral.

In my audience feedback I received positive feedback about creating synergy, and the idea of Faith's own online shop was praised. As the feedback came first hand from my class I can assume it is reliable and useful as the people I presented my pitch to belong to the same class and age group as my target audience. This has gave me ideas to promote Faiths online store as well as just a genetic artist website. This is something I kept as a feature creating a link for Faith’s online store ‘Faith Daze’ in the conventional hyperlinked subheadings under the masthead on the homepage.

I created a pitch to present to my class members the aim of the pitch was to find out a little more about what my target audience wants from my three texts. This was to ensure that I cater for my target audience in every stage of my production. The members of my class are included in the target audience of my artist therefore presenting them with a pitch and gaining feedback from them has proved very beneficial.  This initial feedback was based on my first ideas.

Early audience feedback- The survey!

I gained results from members of my class and also friends and family that fit into my niche target

audience. I analysed my findings in order to better my creative decisions. Here are some of the questions that I learnt from in my production

process.

This question shows that 7 out of 9 people asked use modern technologies such as web 2.0 and iPods/ iPhone to listen to music. Therefore I have become aware the distribution models and will ensure that my ancillary tasks will have the ability to download the track easily and cater for the modern use of technologies. After looking at these results I have decided to use a QR code on the back of my Digi-Pak. This will allow my audience that owns smart phones to scan in the code and be directly took to the home page of my artists web site. This is a way of creating synergy through different media platforms and also will appeals to my target audiences needs. The QR code was an initial idea that I didn’t choose to follow. Although I didn’t feature a QR code features of my website and digipak do cater for the results shown in this question. See examples on the further slides.

Whilst gaining research about my target audience I asked where they would find out about new music videos. This is to ensure that in marketing and advertising my video I am using the right media platforms in order to reach my target audience. This is so important as in order to make the video become popular it needs to be seen and easily accessible to my niche target audience. My results clearly shows the top two choices are based on technology and proves my initial ideas that the type of audience I am appealing to with have a huge demand on using technology. The top choice is the use of social network sites to hear about new music videos. This doesn't surprise me as the characteristics of my target audience place them into the key demographic for social networking site users. Therefore I will insure than in my ancillary tasks I create a link between the artist and social networking sites and will promote and encourage people to Follow faith Elliot on sites such as twitter, I will use direct links to these sites in order to ensure that my target audience will see more videos by faith posted on these sites.  This feedback was something very useful to me and was a key factor that learnt me what to include on my website. See examples of how I used this data in the production of my website on further slide.

The fifth question I asked was to find out a little more about how often music videos are watched. The results showed that my audience didn't watch music videos less than weekly and four out of nine people asked watched videos everyday, therefore this highlighted the importance of making my music video exciting and current as my audience should be bored by watching the same video more than once. This question told me 44.4% of my target audience watch videos daily and the majority of 55.6% watch them weekly. This result made was something that influenced the idea of not only having my music video on the website but introducing the personalised music player feature. This would allow fans to listen to tracks on the website without having to watch full videos.

33.3% said they listen to music on the internet. This a link to YouTube web 2.0  video-sharing

website.

44.4% said they hear about new music on social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Myspace.

Again the repeated use of social networking sites.

The availability to download the track from ‘App Store’. The App Store is a service for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad created by Apple Inc. This allows direct downloads. As 44.4% said they listen to music on their I-pod or phone this is a feature that appeals to my target audience.

Unique feature that is a personal feature allowing audience to listen to music directly online.

Audience feedback on the final products- The ‘Facebook’ group!

This part of the audience feedback was done at the end of the production process. This was to gather thoughts on how my target audience received my three texts. I posted a link to my website on the Facebook page, along side a JPEG image of the digipak and a link to the video. I asked people to comment on the page with there thoughts and opinions. This I felt would be beneficial to evaluate if my production choices paid off. Below are some of the comments I received on the group.
