About the Island• Andaman & Nicobar Island is an group of
nearly 600 Islands.• Located in the Bay of Bengal, it is close to
Myanmar and Thailand than to India.• It is popular for its Exotic Marine life, Flora
& Fauna and its History.• Its also a popular destination for
Honeymoon travelers, Photography, Adventure, Water sports and Spa’s.
Some more About the Island
• Out of nearly 600 islands, only 9 are open to tourists.• Best time to visit the Island
is from January to June.• Major cities are Port Blair,
Diglipur, Rangat, Mayabunder.
Government and Politics of Andaman and Nicobar Islands
• The government and politics of Andaman and Nicobar Islands operate in a way that is slightly different from the governance of most states and Union Territories of India.
• There is no presence of legislature in the government.
• The Lieutenant Governor is himself the executive head in the government of Andaman and Nicobar.
• The state judiciary falls under the supervision of the Kolkata High Court.
FESTIVALS OF ANDAMAN & NICOBAR
• ISLAND TOURISM FESTIVAL (Months : December - January) The festival comprises an exhibition, cultural programmes, competitions, etc. Government agencies and private entrepreneurs from the islands and mainland India also attend the exhibition organized during the festival.
• SUBHASH MELA (Month: January ) Subhash mela is organised in Havelock Island every year on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Its a week long festival filled with cultural programmes.
• VIVEKANANDA MELA (Month : January) Vivekananda Mela is organised at Neil Island to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
Get in• The Island can be reached
by Air or Sea.• By air the island is
connected to New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, etc.
• Major Airlines are Indian Airlines, Spice Jet, Indigo, Jet Konnect and Go air.
• By Sea, the island can be reached from Chennai, Vishakpatnam and Kolkata.
Stay• There are a number of
beautiful resorts throughout the Island chain.
• Some popular resorts are Silver sands resorts, Munjoh Ocean Resorts, Tropical Beach Resorts, etc.
• The rates vary depending on the season and location.
Port Blair• It is the largest city in
the Andaman & Nicobar Island.
• It connects the Island chain to the rest of the world.
• Popular places to visit are Cellular jail, Corbyn’s cove, Anthropological Museum Chatam Saw mill, etc.
Popular Tourist destinations Havelock Island• It is the most visited of all
the Islands.• Best place for relaxing,
Scuba diving, beaches, etc.• Elephant Beach is a popular
beaches in the Island.• Other activities include
Trekking, Mangrove Safari and Fishing.

Neil Island• Neil has long beaches good
for relaxing and chilling out after the bustle of Havelock Island.
• Best way to get there is by a ferry.
• Local sight seeing include Sitapur beach, Sunset Point, Natural Bridge, etc.

• Wandoor is a small village in the Southern tip of South Andaman.
• Popularly known as the gateway to the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park.

90km from Port Blair.• It is famous for mud
volcano, mangrove forests and limestone caves.
• Also has a deserted beach to chill out.

Long Island• Long Island is a small island
in the Andaman sea.• Popular for its Eco-huts
which are run and managed by a group called Blue Planet.
• Much of the island is forested and unexplored.
• It is advisable to visit with a guide.

Barren Island• Barren Island is the only
active volcano in India.• Day trips are arranged
to the island.• No additional permits
are needed to visit the island, however it is not possible to set foot on the island, only view it from the far.
Eat & Drink
• Seafood is the order of the day.• Local Indian and International dishes are also
available on the mainland and some of the Islands.
• Fresh coconut waters are popular and widely available.
• Alcohols are also available in some restaurants and in the “English Beer & Wine Shop” in Port Blair and Havelock Islands.
