The city is a cultural hub due to influence of several

dynasties, so the footprint of those dynasties can be seen

yet, over the centuries. The city has so many places to visit,

but the six most astonish historical monuments take you

in that ancient period.

“Gol Gumbaz” is the second largest mausoleum of Adil

Shah completed in 1657. The name derived from its

circular dome shape, you will be surprised by the technique

used in the construction of this dome, whatever sound you

make inside the central chamber, the sound is echoed

seven times. You will be surprised by the other attraction,

“the Whispering Gallery”, where even a soften sound of a

minute can be heard, if you even drop a pen that sound

can be heard at a distance of 37 meters away. You can

monuments, “Archaeological Museum” consists several of

curious objects like paintings, inscription, manuscripts and

Bijapur Tour Package “Ibrahim Rauza” is also situated near the Gol Gumbaz; this

is the mausoleum of Ibrahim Adil Shah II, known for

religious lenience as Mughal Emperor Akbar. It is inspired

by Taj Mahal, and built on a single slab of rock. This

mausoleum has twin tombs of Ibrahim Adil Shah and his

wife. The architecture is an exemplar is of its marvellous

minarets and gateways.

When you will pass through the Mecca gate to Shahpur

Gate you will see a cannon, which is named as “Malik-e-

Maidan”, it is the largest medieval cannon in the world. It is

4 meters in length and 55 tons in weight. This cannon was a

trophy of a war in the 17th century, the Sherza Burj was

specially built to place it. You can’t even imagine that how

could it bring here, it bought with 400 oxen, 10 elephants,

and tens of men. The gunner has to dip under water to

escape from the sound of the cannon after the explosion.

The “Upli Burj” was built by Hyder Khan. It is 80 feet high

tower which was a watch tower used for monitoring

purposes. There is a circular staircase to reach on the top;

you can take a view to the city. The two large cannon are

still there.

Among all these monuments the “Jami Masjid” is the

largest mosque in India, and it is adorned with the paintings

and murals. It covers an area of 116, 300 square feet. It is
