Denmark in 1940

Germany invaded Denmark on April 9, 1940. The purpose of the German invasion was to provide bases for the German navy and to protect the German supply of iron from Sweden. Denmark was invaded so that the southern end of the sea routeto Narvik would be protected.  The German army overpowered the Danish army. The Danish government was forced to agree to the German's demands to end the fighting because they knew fighting would be pointless. The Germans were in Denmark until the end of the war.
