The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from the French people to the United States and is a universal icon of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886,and was make as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centenary on July 4, 1986.

Ellis island is a small island is located in the bay of the New Jersey coast, in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. From 1892 to 1954, over twelve million immigrants entered the United States through the portal of Ellis Island, a small island in New York Harbor.

The Liberty statue was made in a workshop on France and then transported to New York. The statue is 93 metres high ( the statue and the pedestal ) and weights 225 tons. It is made up of a thin layer of copper. The island where it is placed is called Bedloe island.

Ellis Island started working the 1st of January of 1892 with the arrival of an Irishwoman, and finished the 12 of November of 1954 with a Norweian man. Then the facilities were made a museum. Over twelve millions of people came to Ellis island.
