Holiday Checklist - What to Pack

- If you are travelling abroad then, obviously, your passport is the first thing that you should have with you. Don't forget that it must be valid for at least 6 months from the day of your departure.

- If you are European and you are planning to travel within the EU, then you can use your ID instead of your passport.

- Plane tickets and travel insurance are also in the 'must-have-with-you' category.

When it comes to clothes, men and women have a different understanding of the word 'essential'. But, let's try and look at the best case scenario. Prior to your departure check the weather forecast for the duration of your stay and select your clothes accordingly. Of course it's okay to carry something in case it gets chilly at night, but just use your common sense and I am sure you can reduce your luggage significantly (plus this will leave you with more room for souvenirs).

First aid kit and medicine are also important, especially for backpackers. Things like sunscreen, insect repellent, flu pills, plasters, diarrhea blockers, something for sore throat and even condoms (or contraceptive pills for the females) are all essential for any traveller, so make your own medical kit up and have it around you just in case.

Lastly - the electronics. Actually, considering the high-tech world we live in, most probably your phone, camera and the likes are the first things you pack. It is also a good idea carry a flashlight in case you share a room in a hostel and you come back late at night, or simply if the electricity goes off. Spare batteries, chargers and memory cards should also find their place in your suitcase.

Finally, if you are planning to go somewhere, like on holiday in China, you might need to obtain a visa - so make sure you don't forget it, otherwise you won't be allowed in the country.
