The questionnaireThe questionnaire A questionnaire about teenagers’ general
interests was arranged . Three hundred students in each school answered 30 questions. The topics dealt with
• Activities in the afternoon• Sports• Music• Friends• TV and cinema• Fashion• Holidays
ActivitiesActivitiesAccording to their school timetable the students participating in
this project finish school everyday between 2/3 p.m. in U.K., Poland and Spain; and later at the Romanian school cause they have all their lessons in the afternoon.
When enjoying their free time they like practising sports, listening to music and dancing, playing or working with computers and watching TV mainly; but overall they like meeting friends outdoors or at other pals’ houses, the more time they spend with friends , the happier they feel.
Although their timetables are quite different, in Spain they stay outdoors or have their meals later than in the rest, there are more similarities than differences.
This is what we try to “discover” about them, and in this way, maybe we, adults, understand them much better, or maybe not!
Sports Sports The “king” of sports is football , played
by boys and girls. Football teams are supported by lots of teenagers, but mainly boys go to matches. They practise sports regularly at school during their Physical Education’s lessons, and then in the afternoons, at sport centres or parks.
Depending on the weather and the place where they live we find some popular sports, for example, in Czestochowa teens go skiing from time to time, but skiing is not so popular among the other students in U.K., Spain or Romania.
Among British teenagers sports like cricket, hockey, gaelic football or rugby are well known, but not often played in the rest of schools in our project. Romanians and Spanish go swimming more regularly .

Teenagers in every country listen to the same kind of music, the one they can dance with . Some traditional tunes like “banghra” among the Asian community in Oldham (U.K.), “flamenco” in Aljaraque (Spain), are listened as well. In Vaslui traditional “hora” is their favourite, and in Czestochowa “polka” and “oberek” is music to sing and dance.
They do not spend much money on music and they do not often go to concerts, though a great number of them like dancing at discos or at friends’ parties. They start going to discos when they are between 12 and 14 years old;most of the Spanish kids start a bit later, between 14-16 years old.
Just a few boys and girls play an instrument , the guitar and keyboards being the most usual among them. Only a small number like classical music and listen to it from time to time.
Other types of music they listen to: rap,dance,break-beat,heavy,hardcore, techno, garage...

FriendsFriends• Most of kids go out in groups,
in Romania these groups of friends are called “ grup “, in U.K. it’s a “gang ”, in Poland they are called “ koledzy “ and in Spain they go out in a “ pandilla” .
• The teenagers meet their friends daily, at school, they often go to other friends’ houses
• When they go out they prefer sharing their secrets with a friend of their same sex.
• All of them like visiting other friends’ homes, they usually meet their friends’ parents there.

TV & CinemaTV & Cinema• Teenagers spend between 2 and 4 hours a day
watching TV. They hardly go to the cinema, maybe once a month or less. They do not know much about actors and actresses even from their own country, they like American films, mainly action or horror films.
• So, heroes like Van Damme, Bruce Willis or Arnold Schwarzenegger ( whom many of them do not know how to write even his name!) are their favourites.
• Looking at the questionnaire we can make a chart for each country showing their preferences dealing with the type of TV programmes they prefer and favourite programmes in each place

Fashion Fashion • Teenagers in our schools do not often go shopping , the say
they do not spend a lot of money on clothes, although they like wearing some popular labels, mainly with sport wear like Nike, Adidas or Reebok.
• They like wearing casual clothes, sport wear and jeans. In Oldham and Vaslui the kids wear uniform to go to school, but they say they do not like it.
• In Vaslui students prefer bright colours when buying or wearing clothes; in Aljaraque and Oldham like dark colours the most; and in Czestochowa they like wearing both.
• About the most popular shops for teenagers in every place we are showing next chart

HolidaysHolidays • Teenagers use to go out for a day trip with their family, they go
to the seaside, to the countryside or to visit relatives living in close towns.
• They travel by car or by coach overall. A significant difference is found in the British teenagers, as they are living on an island they are used to travel by plane more often than the others, it is only a small number of kids in the other schools who have ever travelled by plane.
• When they are asked about their dreamt holidays, many of them dream of exotic places, some like the Caribbean or the Seychelles Islands or of a trip around the world!!!!
• Here is a chart where we summarise the most popular places they would like to go if they had to plan a trip.
