u) Haircut

Don't bring: Don't overload yourself with food stuff. It might cost you at the airport if you exceed the weight limits set by your airline.

Power ratings: The household voltage here is 220V. So the same electronic equipment (your mobile and laptop charger) will work well here.

General clothing instructions: Please remember, that the temperature drops to as low as -25 to -30 regularly in winter. So clothes that can keep you warm are important. Buildings are designed such that you will not need to wear warm cloths inside, but obviously you will need them outdoors. Dress pants and shirts are not commonly used here by students. But it is always good to have a set for interviews.

Before you leave for Finland, have a haircut good enough to free from hairstyle worries for at least two months. Haircut is very expensive here.

During your journey: Don't try your new jeans or your new T-shirt for your journey. New clothes often become uncomfortable and cause irritation. Use the clothes you have washed at least once before.

Don't travel in Shalwar Qameez. Put on jeans and a T-shirt. This is important because you should not appear an Alien and you will have un-necessary attraction at some airports that can lead to un-necessary questioning by airport staff. Having a beard won't make trouble so don't worry about that. Also have a sweater in your hand carry as you might feel cold during the journey (especially when you arrive Finland, Sweden, Norway or somewhere else).

Security authorities and airport officials don't like jokes. So answer the questions asked straight to the point and politely and take it easy. Don't be too serious and don't be too smiley. Appear normal. Don't object to any security checking procedures at airports. Taking off the shoes and the belt is a necessary security check at almost all airports nowadays.

Mobile phones: The mobile network here is GSM so any dual band GSM phone will work here (Same like in Pakistan). The cell phone you bring here should not be second hand as second hand set might have been stolen from Europe and sold to you. If it was stolen from somewhere in Europe, it will not work here.

Safety of your precious luggage: Keep all your important documents and your money in your hand-carry or your pocket. Don't keep them in your booked luggage as booked luggage always has the chance of being lost. Take care of your passport. DONT trust anyone with your precious luggage. Don't feel safe at airports and train stations even. Many students have lost their money and original documents when they become careless here.

Don't think it’s Europe and no one will steal your belongings. Keep your luggage in your sight and don't even dare to put your hand-carry down. Someone might run away with it in a flash (trust me). Pickpockets are also common in crowded places here.

Documents at hand during the journey: Apart from your passport and boarding passes, keep a copy of your passport and two copies of your admission letter in your reach throughout the journey. FIA officials at Karachi airport often ask for a passport copy and admission letter. They are the biggest assholes you ever met and don’t get nervous in front of them otherwise they will nag you. Immigration Officials at Finnish airport will also ask for your admission letter.
