NOUNS
Nouns are words that represent a person, place, thing or, and idea.
• Person- Ms. Schadt, student, Lebron James, teacher
• Place- Eiffel Tower, beach, Bahamas, home
• Thing- pen, Band Aid, diamonds, Kleenex
• Idea- love, Christianity, religion, hate
PROPER VS. CONCRETE
Proper nouns are the specific name of nouns.
Proper nouns start with a capital letter.Ms. Schadt, Lebron James, Eiffel Tower, Bahamas, Band-aid, Kleenex, Christianity.
Common nouns are general items.Student, teacher, beach, home, pen, diamonds, love, religion, hate
ABSTRACT VS. CONCRETE
Concrete nouns are recognizable by the 5 senses (feel, hear, see, taste, smell)
Example: heat, songs, people, salt, aroma
Abstract nouns are ideas, or qualities.Example: love, dreams, wishes
NOUN USAGE IN SENTENCES
• All sentences must have a subject and a predicate.
• Subjects are who or what is doing the action.
• Noun phrases make up the subject of the sentences.
