Relationship Management - Basic Principles

Preview:

DESCRIPTION

An adaptation of a presentation delivered to a London based social enterprise, where Fire facilitated a training session to the organisation's Project Managers and Head of Projects on what good relationship management should look like. The output was a set of Relationship Management principles for the organisation (confidential to the organisation), though featured in the slideshare is a summary of the key lessons I have learnt over the years.

Lessons I have learnt...

It’s about more than being nice to one another...

... it makes life easier and promotes further opportunities

Know your stakeholders...

... take a step back and understand what drives them

On an individual level...

... understand what is keeping them awake at night

Stop, COLLABORATE and listen...

... work together, not against one another

You have two ears and one mouth...

... use them in that order

Work is work...

... don’t take work related disputes personally

Where an issue does arise...

... buy some time to consider your response

Remember that you are the expert at what you do...

... but that they are the expert in what they do

If you say you are going to do something...

... make sure you DO IT

Be honest...

... lose your integrity and you lose the relationship

Remember that...

... ultimately your clients pay your wages

And if all else fails...

... ask your boss

What are your relationship management experiences?

What are your relationship management principles?
