There are regular open mornings when prospective parents may visit the Primary and Senior Schools and meet Mrs Sylvester-Johnson, the Headmistress, and other members of staff. The first Senior School Open Morning will be at 9.30am on Saturday 9 October 2010. For details, please contact the Registrar, Mrs Parsons.
There will be a Sixth Form Open Evening at 5.45pm on 11 November 2010. The closing date for Sixth Form applications is 19 November 2010 and scholarship examinations take place on 27 November 2010. Detailed information about the curricular and co-curricular activities is available from the Registrar.
SCHOOL FEES
(per term) Priestman House Nursery (age 3+) £1,955 Kindergarten (ages 4-5) £3,840 Macleod House P2-P6 (ages 6-11) £3,975 Senior School £4,995
The School fees include lunch and Pupil’s Personal Accident Insurance. Music lessons per term are £205 for 10 lessons.
SCHOLARSHIPS, EXHIBITIONS AND BURSARIES Music Scholarships and Exhibitions are offered from the age of eleven. For music scholarships, successful candidates will normally have achieved Grade Four standard in one or more instruments or be seen to display considerable musical potential. All candidates will also be required to satisfy the School’s entrance requirements. Auditions and interviews are held in January. Music Scholars are awarded a percentage of the school fees and are also awarded tuition on one instrument. Music Exhibitioners receive free tuition on one instrument.
Sports Scholarships and Exhibitions are offered from the age of eleven to candidates who can demonstrate outstanding talent in, and commitment to, sport.
Sixth Form Scholarships and Exhibitions reward ability, application and ambition. Up to ten Scholarships are awarded every year for academic excellence, exceptional ability in the creative arts or for outstanding talent in some other field, such as sport. The Scholarships range in value from 5% to 50% of the fees and are held throughout a pupil’s Sixth Form career at the School subject to satisfactory performance. Applicants may apply for more than one Scholarship. In addition to Scholarships, the Headmistress may, at her discretion, award a number of Exhibitions to promising candidates. Prospective pupils who are interested in the Sixth Form scholarships should apply to the Registrar for further information. Bursaries, which are means tested, are available on entry to the Senior School and the Sixth Form. The Registrar, Mrs Sue Parsons, may be contacted by email registrar@ibstockplaceschool.co.uk or by telephone on 020 8392 5803.
ADMISSIONS There is a registration fee of £75. A formal offer of a place will be made if a child is successful at assessment. The completed acceptance form is submitted together with a fees’ deposit against the child’s last term’s fees at the School; the deposit is not returnable should the place not be taken up. The offer of a place will be deemed to have lapsed if it is not formally accepted within two weeks of the offer being made. Under the Standard Terms and Conditions, school fees are due on or before the first day of term. Compound interest at 1.75% per month will be added to all outstanding accounts after the start of term. Payment of fees can be made by cheque or BACS. A monthly direct debit scheme at a cost of £30 per term is available by arrangement with the Bursary. Peripatetic staff are paid on a fee-for-service basis. A full term’s notice of the intention to withdraw a pupil must be given in writing to the Headmistress. In the absence of such notice, a full term’s fees will be charged. The Governors reserve the right to raise the fees during the course of the year; normally at least one term’s notice is given of an increase in school fees.
Admission to Priestman House There is no assessment for entry to the Nursery or Lower Kindergarten (Reception); places are offered according to date of registration and gender with priority being given to siblings. Children at the top of the waiting list are invited for individual assessment with the Head of Priestman House to fill occasional places that may arise in Year 1.
Admission to Macleod House For admission to Macleod House (Years 2 - 6) formal assessments take place on a Saturday morning in January for any vacancies that may arise for the following academic year. Candidates for possible entry into Prep 2 (6+) will have an individual assessment lasting about 30 minutes. Candidates for Prep 3 and Prep 4 (7+ and 8+) complete papers in English and Mathematics, with entrants for Preps 5 and 6 (9+ and 10+) also taking Reasoning papers. A confidential reference is requested from the current head teacher.
Admission to the Senior School Once registered, and having completed an Examination Entry form, all external candidates for entry to the Senior School are invited for interview prior to the written examination which takes place on a Saturday in late January. The School sets its own papers in English, Mathematics and Reasoning. A confidential reference is requested from current head teachers. Offers are made two weeks after the formal examinations.
Internal candidates (Prep 6) sit the examination at the same time as external candidates. The School is aware that some pupils will be sitting entrance examinations for other schools. Parents of a pupil whose educational needs cannot be met by Ibstock Place School will have been forewarned that the Senior School will not be the appropriate choice at the age of 11. Support and guidance in the choice of an appropriate school is offered to parents in such cases.
All pupils entering Senior 7 the following autumn are invited to an Induction Afternoon in June. This gives pupils the opportunity to meet each other, their Housemaster, and be shown the Senior School. Two days prior to the start of the Autumn Term in September, a team-building day is organised by the Senior Tutor.
IGCSE EXAMINATION RESULTS 2010 PVI took the more rigorous and demanding IGCSE in Mathematics, Sciences, French and Spanish, along with pupils in other leading Independent Schools. We are proud of our pupils’ performance in these demanding subjects.
