DEFINITION
ADVERB CLAUSE or ADVERBIALCLAUSE is a clause that function asan adverb. In other words, it contains
a subject and a predicate, and itmodifies a verb. Adverbial clause isclassified base on meaning from theconjunction.

The general pattern of adverb clause is:
SUBJECT+PREDICATE+CONJUNCTION+SUBJECT+PREDICATE

KINDS OF ADVERB CLAUSEa) CLAUSES OF TIMEThese clauses are used to say when something
happens by referring to a period of time or toanother event. Conjunction used in this adverb,
such as: when, before, after, since, while, as, aslong as, until, till, by the time etc.
EXAMPLES :
Her goldfish died whenshe was young

b) CLAUSES OF PLACEThese clauses are used to talk about the
location or position of something or someone.Conjunction used in this adverb, such as:where, nowhere, anywhere, wherever.
EXAMPLES :

c) CLAUSES OF CONTRASTThese clauses are used to make two
statements, one of which contrasts with theother. Conjunctions used in this clause, suchas: although, though, even though, whereas,even if, in spite of, despite.

f) ADVERB OF PURPOSEThese clauses are used to indicate thepurpose of an action. Conjunctions usedin this clause, such as: in order to, sothat, in order that, in the hope that.

g) CLAUSES OF CAUSE AND EFFECTThese clauses are used to show therelationship between cause and effect.
EXAMPLES:
It was so cold yesterday that I didn'twant to swim

Besides that, to express the relationshipbetween cause and effect we can use other
patterns, such as:1) Used of preposition such as because of, due
to, due to the fact that.
EXAMPLES: Because of his good performance as a
student, he is never nervous when doingexams.

Due to the fact thatthe weather was cold,
we stayed home.
