Sustainability.…what ?Sustainability is an activity which cannot be confined to models or pre-defined structures. It is an ongoing PROCESS of achieving stabilization through various means and incorporating them in the DNA of a society. The various means involve utilizing NATURAL RESOURCES, reducing ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS, SOCIAL COHESION & increasing AWARENESS.

Increasing global population, which can have a negative impact on the environment
Limited non renewable resources of energy, which if exhausted can create chaos
Ever demanding consumers who directly or indirectly make organizations satisfy their needs at the cost of nature

Why is it required?
Characteristics of sustainable organizationsIt can be any organization that aims towards sustainable livelihood, contributes in infrastructure development, focuses on reducing the usage of substances that can negatively impact the ecology.
Such organizations can generate revenue without adversely affecting the environment, community, society, or economy. Their success can be attributed to having the ability to reduce, reuse and recycle components without compromising on their profits.

Despite the global financial crisis, Wipro held fast to its commitment towards energy efficiency and was lauded for launching energy star compliant products in the market.
Wipro has been producing energy efficient products, minimizing gas emissions, offering services towards e-waste recycling, ensuring that substances with hazardous properties are avoided in the production process.

Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA), a Swedish consumer goods company and pulp & paper manufacturer, and is also Europe's largest private owner of forest land. It was cited as the best Swedish company for carbon dioxide reporting in the global CDP survey 2010.
SCA was also ranked for the sixth consecutive year as one of the world’s 100 most sustainable companies by business magazine Canadian Corporate Knights in 2010.
SCA’s sustainability agenda consists of responsible actions towards environment and society. They aim at reducing CO2 emissions, responsible use of raw materials, improving water usage and complying to established principles and standards, which positively impacts their shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers and the local communities.
