JAMMU, May 31: Secretary,Social Welfare Department,Sheetal Nanda, today convened avirtual meet with persons withspinal cord injuries and specialdisabilities of Kashmir division tolisten to their grievances so as toredress them and ensure the facili-ties reach at their doorsteps.

During the meet, the partici-pants raised several issues and

demands which were discussedthreadbare. The issues and con-cerns highlighted included acces-sibilities like ramps and other spe-cial disabled friendly infrastruc-ture in all public and private build-ings besides educational institu-tions particularly with regard tobooks and other requisite necessi-ties. They urged the Secretary tointervene and ensure that theprocess for issuance of incomecertificates is simplified and they

may be provided special rationcards.

Besides, several other signifi-cant issues like provision of reha-bilitation homes/centers, disabledfriendly public transport, avail-ability of ambulance and doctorson call, reservation in governmentjobs, customized wheel chairs,specific prosthetic aid were alsobrought to the notice of theSecretary.

The participants requested fortheir involvement in all programsand measures being taken up bythe government for their welfareand rehabilitation.

After giving a patient hearingto the issues and demands raisedby the participants, Sheetal Nandaassured them that all efforts wouldbe initiated to ensure that theirproblems are mitigated and bene-fits reach the deserving and gen-uine persons. She assured themthat other issues discussed in themeeting would be brought into thenotice of higher authorities forearly redressal.

She affirmed that theGovernment is taking severalinnovative measures to make theirlives comfortable and dignifiedwith special focus on accessibili-ties and livelihood programs.

He asked the depart-ments to ensure every alliedfacility is available at all thesports amenities constructed bythem so that competitive nationalevents are conducted in them.

The meeting was attended byPrincipal Secretary YouthServices & Sports, Alok Kumar;Director General, Youth Services& Sports (YS&S), Dr. Saleem UrRehman; Secretary SportsCouncil, Nuzhat Gul; OSD toAdvisor, Mohammad AshrafHakak; Engineers of the execut-ing agencies and other officers ofthe sports departments.

Advisor Khan directed boththe J&K Sports Council andYS&S Department to create thefacilities that are of specifications

of international standard. Heasked them to approve each ofsuch facilities created by theadministrative bodies like FIFA,FIH, etc.

He further directed theauthorities to upgrade all thefacilities so that reputed sportsevents of nation could be con-ducted there. He impressed uponthem to ensure having separatewashrooms, fencing, parking,drinking water, watch and wardand other facilities available ateach sports stadium for theirproper upkeep and maintenance.

The Advisor asked the DGYS&S to identify the coachingstaff to cater to the outdoor andindoor sports stadia constructedacross different districts of J&K.He further directed them to lookinto deputation of managerialstaff to different sports facilitiesfor managing the activities likebooking, registration of playersand proper utilisation of thesefacilities in each district.

Moreover Advisor Khanasked them to make available theservices of Physiotherapists andother turf maintenance curators atthese state of art facilities fortheir optimum use and care. Heasked them to create boarding &lodging facilities in each districtfor the players so that they don'thave to travel much for partici-pating in the games held there.

The Advisor further directedthe authorities to identify a patchof land in consultation with divi-sional administration for creatingmega sports complex in valley onthe analogy of Khel GaonNagrota, Jammu. He directed theexecuting agencies to adhere todeadlines fixed for each projectand asked the officers to monitorthe deadlines regularly.

The Advisor reviewed theprogress and status of all theongoing mega sports projects ofJ&K, sports projects taken upunder PMDP, maintenance ofsports infrastructure created to becompleted in future. He askedthem to clear the past liabilitieswhere work has been completedsatisfactorily and accelerate thepace on other ongoing workswithout compromising on thequality of work.

SAMBA, May 31: Due toheavy rainfall and thunderstormin the afternoon in Samba area, atruck bearing RegistrationNumber, JK 08 K-6007 over-turned in the middle of theHighway near Main Chowk ofthe town here, today after thedriver lost control over the vehi-cle.

The accident took place nearthe Main Chowk on Jammu -Pathankot National Highway.The truck was loaded withbananas and was on way fromKathua towards Jammu. Butafter reaching Samba, the driversuddenly lost his balance due toheavy rains and thunderstormand the vehicle turned turtle.

The driver of the truck suf-fered minor injuries.

However, the Samba policeswung into action to resume thetraffic on the Highway whichgot disrupted for some time dueto accident. The police also reg-istered a case in this regard andhas started further investigation.

Woman dies inaccident

As per police sources, awoman was seriously injuredwhen the scooty she was ridingwas hit by rashly and negligent-ly driven car near Bawe Talabhere.

The woman was immediate-ly rushed to GovernmentMedical College and Hospital(GMCH) Jammu, where doctorsdeclared her as brought dead.

The deceased was identifiedas Heena Sharma, daughter ofPyare Lal, a resident of MuthiMaira Jourian.

After hearing both thesides, the court observed,"Section 3 of POCSO Act dealswith penetrative sexual assaultand is punishable under Section4 of the Act for which theaccused are involved along withSection 17 of POCSO Act andunless contrary is proved by theaccused it is presumed that theaccused has committed theoffences which have beenestablished against themaccused during the course ofinvestigation".

"The investigation is still inprogress", the Court said whilerejecting the bail applications.

KATHUA, May 31: The traf-fic was suspended and longqueues of vehicles were seen onthe Bani-Sarthal- Bhaderwah roadafter the approach road connect-ing to Asso bridge on Sewa rivergot damaged due heavy rainfall inBani this evening. The local peo-ple noticed the washing away of abig portion of road connected toAsso bridge just four kms fromBani due to heavy rainfall andflash floods and they immediatelyinformed the Bani administration.

After getting the informationSDM Bani, Joginder SinghJasrotia, Tehsildar Bani, ShivKumar and SHO Bani rushed tobridge site and took safety meas-ures. They found that the bridgeacross Sewa nallah at Asso onBani Bhaderwah road about fourkm from Bani town had sunkand damaged due to heavy rainfall

UDHAMPUR, May 31: A vil-lager died because of lightning inLatti area of district Udhampur,here today.

The deceased was identified asSansar Chand (50), son ofFarnghu, resident of Latti. He wasmoving near Koi Nallah whilegoing to his home in the eveningaround 5.30 pm when the tragedystruck.

Amidst thundershower, he washit by a strong beam of light from thesky and reportedly died on the spot.

A case under FIR Number173/2021 under Sections 188, 269and 270 IPC has been registeredagainst owner of the gym identi-fied as Rajan Jain, son of RakeshJain, a resident of 3 AC GandhiNagar District Jammu at PoliceStation Gandhi Nagar and investi-gation started.
