All electronic systems mixers, soundboards, microphones, have an inherent noise value. If the signal to noise ratio is too small, the worse quality the output noise will be.

Mackie Mixer The red OL light either indicates overload or indicates that a particular channel is soloed.

The Mute button switches between outputs 1-2 (all that we have) and the hypothetical 3-4 outputs.

Stereo inputs if it didnt have this, two channels would be necessary for every sound module.

3-band EQ: HI and LO knobs are self-explanatory. MID makes sound harsher and increases output levels.

LO EQ is set at 80 hz/cycles per second. MID at 2.5 k and HI at 12k.

Parametric Equalizers alter Gain, Slope, and Frequency. But we dont have that. We just alter the Gain of a set frequency.

Two purple knobs on top can send the channel to different places. (For example, a reverb unit that will add reverb and then send the channel back through the mixer.)

Reverb units that are built into the mixers are not the best quality. Most are separate units.

Compressor reduces the dynamic range.

Stops the flow of the signal and then reinitiates it. Called an insert. (Contrasts with a send, which does not stop the flow, but continues the dry signal and merely mixes an effect into it.)

Aux/Shift button shifts from sends 1-2 to 3-4. You cant have more than two effects simultaneously on the same channel, you can just have 4 different options.

Most of the modules have effects built in to them.

Most reverb units have stereo outputs, because it sounds spacier, more majestic.

Stereo Aux Returns control how much effects are added.
