Introduction and background

The ID 2015….

• provides a relative ranking of areas across England (and therefore Brighton & Hove) according to their level of deprivation.

• identify small areas which are experiencing multiple aspects of deprivation.

• it replaces the Indices of Deprivation 2010 as the official measure of deprivation in England.

• based on the small area geography known as Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs).

• based on broadly the same methodology as the 2010 Indices.

• does not measure affluence

Seven domains of the IMD

• ID 2015 brings together 37 different indicators which cover specific dimensions of deprivation.

• These are weighted and combined to create the overall Index of Multiple Deprivation: – Income Deprivation (22.5%)

– Health Deprivation & Disability (13.5%)

– Education, Skills & Training Deprivation (13.5%)

– Barriers to Housing & Services (9.3%)

– Living Environment (9.3%) Figure in brackets is the weight given to each domain
