Solvent ased itumen Primer
P
OLYPRIME
SB is a quick drying solvent based low viscosity bitumen primer. It is used as a primer coat onmasonry and concrete substrates to improve the adhesion of bitumen based membranes and coatings.POLYPRIME
SB is low in viscosity, which allows it to penetrate into the concrete pores and improve the ad-hesion between the membrane and the concrete surface. In addition to that, the primer also acts as abinder for the dust particles which gets accumulated on the concrete surface even after cleaning.
CHARACTERISTICS
Improves the adhesion between bitumen based
sheet membranes and coatings.
Cold applied, does not require heating.
Binder for dust particles.
As a curing compound on freshly cast concrete.
Excellent barrier against chloride and sulphate
ion ingress and carbon dioxide diffusion.
Anti corrosive.
Conforms to the following standards:
ASTM D 41 - Asphalt primer for roofing, damp
proofing and waterproofing
BS 3416, Type A Class C - Bitumen based
coatings for cold application, suitable for use in
contact with potable water.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
P
OLYPRIME
SB is used as a primer and sealer coatprior to the application of bitumen based water-proofing membranes and coatings. This can alsobe used as a curing compound on freshly cast con-crete.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
The application temperature should be between4C to 45C. Application procedures may varyslightly depending upon site conditions. The gen-eral recommended guidelines for the applicationof the primer is as follows:
Surface preparation
The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of allcontaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil and grease. All surface imperfections, nail head
protrusions, structurally unsound and friable con-crete shall be removed and repaired with a suit-able POLYCRETE* concrete repair mortar. The surfacemust be dry before priming with POLYPRIME SB.
ApplicationMix the contents of the pail or drum for a few min-utes to remove any sediments. Apply the primer@4-6 m/lt. to a clean smooth and dry surface bybrush, roller or airless spray. Allow the primer to dryprior to the application of the membrane. Forhighly porous surfaces application of a secondcoat is recommended.
COVERAGE
The coverage is 4-6 m/lt./coat. However, the
coverage will depend on the porosity of the sub-strate. In order to ascertain the exact coverage, atrial application is carried out at site.
STORAGE & SHELF LIFE
The pails and drums must be stored in a covered, dry and shaded area, away from direct sunlight,UV and other sources of heat and protected fromextreme temperatures. The shelf life of the productis up to 12 months if stored as per the recom-mendations. Excessive exposure to sunlight and UVwill result in the deterioration of the quality of the
product and reduce its shelf life.
HEALTH & SAFETY
P
OLYPRIME
SB contains volatile solvent with a lowflash point (38C). It should be kept far away fromnaked flame. Avoid inhalation of vapors and en-sure there is adequate ventilation in the work place.Gloves, protective masks and goggles should beworn during application. CHARACTERISTICS
Specially formulated for tropical climate grade.
Provides protection against water and vapor.
Self adhesive. Requires just peeling off the sili-
cone film and sticking to the surface.
Excellent adhesion to vertical and horizontal
surfaces.
Excellent resistance to chlorides, sulphates, al-
kalis and acids.
Good tear and puncture resistance.
Excellent tensile strength.
FIELDS OF APPLICATIONBITUSTICK XL is used as waterproofing and dampproofing membrane intended for concrete protec-tion. It may be used for horizontal and vertical ap-plication for tanking below ground structures, sub-ways and retaining walls.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
The application temperature should be between4C to 45C. Application procedures may varyslightly depending upon site conditions. The generalrecommended guidelines for the application of theself adhesive waterproofing system is as follows:
Surface preparation
The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of allcontaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil and grease. All surface imperfections, protru-sions, structurally unsound and friable concretemust be removed and repaired with a suitableP
OLYCRETE* concrete repair mortar.
Priming
Apply POLYPRIME SB* (Solvent based primer) @ 4-6 m/lt. as per ASTM D 41 to a clean smooth and
dry surface by brush, roller or spray. Allow theprimer to dry prior to the application of the mem-brane. As the viscosity of the primer is low, it easilypenetrates into the concrete pores which promotesthe adhesion between the membrane and the con-crete surface. In addition to that the primer also acts
as a binder for the dust which gets accumulated on
the concrete surface even after cleaning.Alignment
Start the installation of all membrane plies from thelow point or drains, so that the flow of water is overor parallel to the plies, but never against the laps. All overlaps at the membrane seams shall be in-stalled so as to have "up" slope laps over "down"slope laps. Begin membrane application by un-rolling the roll of BITUSTICK XL membrane and align-ing the side laps.
Application
Peel off the release film from the self adhesive side
and start unrolling the membrane and press it tothe surface. Smoothen the membrane from thecenter to the edges with a wooden press in orderto remove entrapped air. Furthermore, an ironroller shall be used for rolling on top of the appliedmembrane to ensure a proper and strong adhesionof the bitumen compound with the base surface.
