voice in praise of Him is a wonderful blessing. To show ourappreciation we would like you to stop by our visitor center, located
in the narthex, where you will find gift bags. Please take one.
Please introduce yourself to Pastor Zimmermann and perhaps to others you may
notice just hanging around after the worship service has concluded. We sometimes get
so caught up in our excitement at seeing friends for the first time in the past week that
we forget to lookout for YOU! Thank you for joining us today, and please, thank our
LORD for his free gift of grace.

School News - By Principal, Elaine PoppMission Statement:
First Lutheran School exists to proclaim the Gospel as we teach academic skills and Christian values,
establishing a strong foundation for a child to live a successful, positive, and Christ-centered life.
Happy New Year! First Lutheran School is back in session after Christmas break. It was great tosee all of the students and their families again. We welcomed a new student to our 6
thgrade and
that is always great news.
Its been a chilly week, so a big thank you goes out to Bill Spoolstra. He got toschool extra early on Monday morning and turned the heat on in all theclassrooms. It felt nice and warm by the time the teachers and students began their
day. Thanks, Mr. Bill!
Over the Christmas break, we were able to install two more video projectors in our classroomsusing some of this years auction money. The teachers are excited about using them right away.We have, also, ordered two more mimio systems to go with those projectors and they should bearriving very soon. The teachers are taking online classes to learn how to best utilize this newtechnology.
I am pleased and excited to tell you that we have welcomed a new teacher to our staff. LaurraineMarshall is our new teacher for our 4-year-old VPK class. Laurraine has many years of experience
in early childhood, as well as, a nursing degree. She and her husband Nolan have been worshipingwith us for the past several months. (You may have heard his beautiful voice enhancing ourworship from the balcony.) Laurraine is going to be a great addition to our staff; we are trulyblessed. Earlier this week, she spent some time observing the classroom and learning routines andprocedures and officially took over on Friday. Many, many thanks to Jennifer Bier and NataleeHallsted for their awesome jobs as substitutes during Mrs. Costas maternity leave. You kept ourprogram flowing smoothly. Thank you, also, to Gaby Sievert, the classroom assistant, for all yourexpertise and extra hours you spent during this transition time.
FLS students still need eyeglasses donated for theLutheran M.O.S.T. Ministries that sponsor missiontrips. Gently used glasses are needed.
Please drop off your donation in the schooloffice or in church narthex in the M.O.S.T.Eyeglass Basket. It is never too late to donate to
this very worthy cause. This drive goes on all year.

Start Something of First Importance
Did you notice the date on the first dayof the year?New Year's Day? 1/1/10. Allthose "one's" speak to me of the beginningof something. Its a new beginning thestart of something new. What should I bestarting? Well, there's my plan to simplify
my life, but that seems too complicated tostart with.
t.
There's the need to organize, at home andat the office; to clean out drawers and files,to dispose of no longer useful materials, tosort items, and prioritize tasks. But thatseems too large a task to take on firs
Then, there's the people I meant to contact during the holidays and did not. But they're all busy attheir own routine duties now. It's too late for that one.
Like so many New Year's resolutions, changes in routine and major tasks that aren't urgent tend tobe delayed indefinitely. New things in my life need to start small.
Jesus suggested seeking first the kingdom of God. Maybe I can start that in some small way. Reada few verses in the Bible each day. Or, get up a few minutes earlier and pray before I begin mymorning routine. Or, kneel before I climb into bed and talk about the day with God.
It's a new year; start something of first importance today.
