Geophysical Methods in Mineral Prospecting and Exploration

Using geophysical methods certain physical properties of a deposit or the hosting

geological environment are measured. Geophysical methods, which ‘see’ under

covering formations, supplement the information gained on the surface during

prospecting. s the surface o!servations can !e made only on uncovered surfaces

or outcrops, geophysics can extend the interpretation hori"ontally and to the depth

as well. #n a minor portion of cases these methods are appropriate for assigning the

target area of a further drilling prospect unaided, !ut in most cases the results are

interpreted together with geological and geochemical data. $he most important

prere%uisite of the use of any method is that it ma&e the contrast as sharp as

possi!le !etween the physical parameters of the geological target 'mineral deposit,

stratigraphical unit, structure( and those of its environment.
