VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION WEEKEND THANKS!!!!!
I offer my heartfelt gratitude for all those who volunteer here at the Basilica of St. Mary. Take a look at the list of our wonderful Parish Apostolates on the second page of this bulletin to see the groups whose members serve our parish and, in many cases, the larger Alexandria commu-nity in myriad ways. They make our parish vibrant and relevant, providing living praise to God. Please check the list of Apostolates, find one that appeals to you…. and volunteer!
SPRING SUNDAY SOCIAL Join us for our Spring Sunday Social in the Fr. Rankin House courtyard next Sunday, April 22, following the 5 p.m. Mass. We’ll enjoy wine and cheese and a fun chance to get to know other parishioners. This first social of the season is hosted by our Young Adult group. Pray for good weather!
1795 LEGACY SOCIETY As Tax Deadline Day approaches, we might recall Jesus’ advice to "render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:21). Like all of us, you constantly make decisions about how best to “render” your talent, time and treasure to God and to other people. Those decisions help build your personal legacy, which includes your rela-tionship with the Church and our Basilica. There is no better way to honor and perpetuate that relationship than through our new 1795 Legacy Society. Through the Society, you can name St. Mary as the beneficiary of a planned gift. Those gifts might include a bequest in your will or trust, charitable annuities or scholarship endowments or gifts of life insurance. Please prayerfully consider participating in the 1795 Legacy Society to ensure sustained financial support for our beautiful Basilica and help spread the Catholic faith in Alexandria, and beyond, for generations to come. The 1795 Legacy Society is affiliated with the Catholic Heritage Circle of the Diocese of Arlington. For more information on the 1795 Legacy Society, visit our website at www.stmaryoldtown.org or contact Trish Weiler at tweiler@stmaryoldtown.org or call her at 703.836.4100.

Ryan Moy, a Senior Account Exec-utive with an Alexandria public relations firm, was received into full communion with the Catholic Church at our Easter Vigil. Ryan’s road to that night was a long one. Originally from Texas, he attended Baylor University, the world’s larg-est Baptist college. He then earned a Master’s of Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania, attend-ing evangelical services during this time. Although Ryan enjoyed the charismatic services, deep down he was searching for more. As he tells it, he has been interested in the Catholic Church for about 15 years. Initially, he was “less interest-ed in what Catholics believed than in the history of the Church.” He was awed by the fact that Catholics he knew seemed to care about the full history of Christianity much more than his non-Catholic friends. In 2008, he arrived in the Alexandria area and “began to be surrounded by Catholics.” A friend invited him to Mass. A co-worker invited him to Catholic events and added him to several Catholic Facebook groups. Over time, even acquaintances asked him if he had ever considered becoming Catholic. In 2014, Ryan met with a friend over dinner to talk about Catholicism. His friend recommended RCIA, which he described as an opportunity to learn more about the faith. Ryan joined our RCIA class at St. Mary’s last fall. He credits the prayers and support of friends and the St. Mary’s community for helping him along his journey.
