Military Engineers (SAME)-US Army is hosting its annualEngineering and ConstructionCamp June 16-22 in Vicks-burg.

The camp provides highschool students with a greathands-on experience in engi-neering and construction activ-ities. Vicksburg’s wide-rangingengineering community pro-vides a wealth of offerings incutting edge engineering top-ics.

The one-week program issupervised by professional en-gineers and volunteers fromengineering organizations inthe lower Mississippi Valley.

The crewmates (campers)are exposed to a wealth ofknowledge about the variouscareer choices in the fields ofengineering and construction,focusing primarily on water re-sources engineering. Applica-tions are normally distributedto high schools in January forsubmission to the camp Stu-dent Affairs Committee by themiddle of March each year.

The Mississippi ArmedForces Museum at CampShelby Joint Forces TrainingCenter hosted the seventh an-nual Laying of the Wreaths cer-emony May 23 to honor thememory of service membersfrom Mississippi and otherstates who gave their lives inservice to our nation.

“At today's event we're hon-oring those Mississippians whopaid the ultimate sacrifice bydefending our freedom andthough they're gone from ustheir legacy of commitment and

courage live on forever,” saidBrewer. “I'd like to say a specialthanks to the members of theAmerican Legion and the Veter-ans of Foreign Wars for makingtoday's event possible. Yourservice to the state and Americais greatly appreciated.”

Brewer also commended theFamilies and loved ones whohave supported and encouragedour nation’s service men andwomen during time of war.

“I'd also like to recognize ourmilitary spouses. These individ-uals have supported our troopsfrom day one and they've beencritical to our victory in this warthat we're fighting right now,”

Camp Shelby welcomed morethan 300 military retirees, includ-ing Air Force and Army personnelfrom across the state, to celebratetheir service during the annual Re-tiree Day May 16.

Welcoming remarks were madeby Camp Shelby Installation Com-mander, Col. William B. “Brad”Smith with keynote remarks givenby Maj. Gen. Augustus L. Collins,Adjutant General of the Missis-sippi National Guard and Cmd.Sgt. Maj. George M. Miller, Com-

mand Sergeant Major of the Mis-sissippi National Guard.

“The Guard is Family,” said Col.Smith. “Today is a day of opportu-nity that we can honor the distin-guished men and women of theMississippi Army National Guardfor their dedicated support to ourNation in times of war and to ourState in times of emergencies.”

While addressing the audience,Collins informed veterans and theirFamilies of the current and futureoperations working at CampShelby.
