School-Age Services
LVCC’s school-age programs providesafe, supervised activities for children during
their elementary and intermediate school
years. We strive to help produce happy, healthy,community-oriented young adults. To meet
the varying needs and interests of school-age
children, our program is both educational andrecreational. The structure of the program and
the activities oered relect the interests of thestudents and reinforce skills learned in school.
Although time is allocated for doing homework,school-age children may also participate in
cooperative games, arts and crafts, computer
activities, table games, cooking, dramatics andmuch more. In addition, children enjoy outdoor
activities daily.
Community service projects are encouraged to
emphasize the importance of children taking
an active role in creating healthy communities. In addition, school-age classrooms utilize
the Heartwood Institute’s literature-basedethics and character education curriculum. The Heartwood Curriculum uses outstanding
children’s literature from around the world tostimulate discussions and activities.
Many of our programs take place on-site in localelementary and intermediate schools, while
in other cases LVCC provides transportation
between the school and an LVCC center. Servicesvary slightly by location. For instance, some
programs can provide care after half-day
kindergarten, on school holidays and snow days.
