DESCRIPTION

An 1895 collection of stories based in and around Laxey by Egbert Rydings, hailed by T. E. Brown as a seminal event in the literature of the Isle of Man. The Manx National Poet, T. E. Brown. suggested the writing of the book to Rydings, then the owner of the Laxey Woollen Mills, and Brown was later to call ‘Manx Tales’ the basis (along with his own poems) for a new Manx-dialect literature. Rydings’ stories are some of the funniest of all prose from the Isle of Man. The full text is available from www.manxliterature.com
