Newsletter No.31
Newsletter No.2 - 26.1.2017
PARENT INFORMATION EVENINGS:
Grade 00: Thursday, 26 January 2017 at 17h30
Grade 000 and Playgroup: Wednesday, 1 February 2017 at 17h30
Parents will first meet in the Functions Room, where I will address them on general school matters and thereafter will proceed to their child’s classroom. Your child’s class teacher will inform you on the educational year plan as well as our expectations of your child during the course of the year.
Light refreshments will be available from 5h15
NB. Larrisa Gunas (Teacher Assistant) will be offering a ‘babysitting service’ at the school on all of these nights to assist parents. Please find further details regarding this service at the end of this newsletter.
CHILDREN WHO LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY: If you fetch your child before the close of the school day, please collect a ‘Permission to Leave Early’ slip from Annette. You will be required to hand this slip to the guard at the gate, before you are allowed to exit the campus.
ENTRY PERMITS:
All parents require an entry permit to gain access to the campus. Please make sure you display your disc on the top, right hand side of your windscreen. The first entry permit is issued free of charge. Additional permits are available from reception at a cost of R10.00 each.
Please be advised that if you do not have a ‘Crawford disc’ the security guard at the gate will stop you and ask you to sign in. You may also be asked to produce your driver’s licence – this is a means of verifying a person’s identity. At Crawford we are committed to ensuring the safety of all children on our campus – please oblige in a courteous manner.
SICK CHILDREN: If your child is ill, please telephone and let us know. Do not send your child to school if he/she
has a sore throat, cold or temperature. Parents may not send medicine to school in their child’s school bag. If your child is asthmatic please provide the school with an asthma pump for safe keeping (clearly labeled with your child’s name and the correct dose). You will be asked to fill in a ‘Consent to Administer Medication Form’, which will remain on file.
If your child has an infectious disease he/she is required to stay away from school until he/she has completely recovered. Please inform the school if your child has a contagious/infectious condition.
Children who have a runny nose that does not ‘run clear’ may not attend school until the infection has cleared.
SUMMER HEAT: Remember to apply sunscreen to your child and send a wide-brimmed hat/peak to school every day. Crawford North Coast Pre-Primary is a ‘Be Sun Smart School’. Each classroom is equipped with a bottle of Nivea 50+ sunscreen for reapplication during the school day.
BUSYBALLERS: All Grade 00 and Grade 0 children have already had their first Busyballers lesson. Playgroup and Grade 000 children will also participate in this programme from the beginning of the second term, by which time they should be more settled and secure in the school environment and able to cope with a change of teacher. Please remember to apply extra sunscreen every Thursday and send your child’s hat/cap.

EXTRA MURAL PROGRAMME: Please find an Extra Mural Timetable for Term 1 at the end of this newsletter. Children younger than 4 do not cope well with an extended school day, so the extra
mural activities are for children from the age of 4 years. Children should not be pressurized into participating in this programme until they are
ready and should select not more than 2 activities per week. The group teachers have pasted an ‘Extra Mural Activity’ form in your child’s notebook.
Please list the activities he/she will be participating in so that the teachers are informed as to where your child should be.
Children must be fetched promptly after extra mural activities as the teachers have other commitments after their lessons.
Payment should be made directly to the extra mural teacher. EFT payments are the preferred method of payment.
DOLLS CLOTHES: If you are able to assist with the sewing of new dolls clothes for our home corners, please give your name to Annette Knoesen.
SCHOOL PROPERTY: It is not uncommon for children to take items that do not belong to them. Should your child bring home any school puzzle pieces, Duplo figurines etc it is important to make him/her aware that this is unacceptable behavior and will not be tolerated. Please ensure he/she returns the item to the class teacher with an apology. This is an important life lesson.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES: We ask parents not to invite group teachers to children’s birthday parties. This sets a precedent with teachers expected to attend all their pupil’s parties. If your child is invited to a birthday party, it is common courtesy to RSVP.
SWIMMING LESSONS: The College Swimming Pool is presently being revamped and will only be completed sometime in February. The N.C. Dolphins swimming club will be running the ‘Learn to Swim’ swimming programme. We will keep you informed as to when the lessons will commence.
MOTHERS WHO CARE PRAYER GROUP: ‘Mothers Who Care’ is a non-denominational group of mums who pray for our children and the school. Their main objective is to provide prayer and moral support for children, teachers, administrators and their families. They believe in Gods ability and willingness to help, heal and bless. They hold a prayer meeting every Tuesday from 8h00-8h30 at the Pre-Primary for all 3 schools on the campus. Any parents that are keen to attend are most welcome to join. You can either just pop in to the Pre-Primary reception area on Tuesday morning or contact Sue on 083 4090949 for further information.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO: Pack a spare set of clothes in your child’s school bag each day.
Mark all items of clothing with your child’s name. (On the inside of the garment, using your child’s surname, not just their initials.)
Send a hat/cap each day.
Apply sunscreen to your child before he/she comes to school
ANTI-WASTE (Don’t Waste It, We Paste It!): We use – empty pharmaceutical boxes, wallpaper books, fabric samples, dressmaking pattern books, carpet squares, scraps of wool, lace, sequins, buttons, braid, anything bling, bottle tops, corks, factory off-cuts, architects paper, corrugated card, greeting cards, magazines, rolls of stickers and empty small bottles of baby powder or baby lotion.
MY SCHOOL CARD: A ‘My School Card‘ application form can be found on the D6 Communicator. If you would like to be part of this initiative, please submit a completed form. Cards are swiped everytime a purchase is made at one of the My School retail partners nationwide e.g. Woolworths. Each transaction is recorded and a percentage is paid to the school of the supporter’s choice.

There will be sponsorship opportunities from time to time if anyone is interested.
