Principal’s report
Healthy Lunchbox Session
Thank you to our small band of parents who came
along to last Friday’s Healthy Lunchbox session. Run by
the Cancer Council, by all accounts this was a most
enjoyable and informative session for our parents. We
will be looking to offer lots more information sessions
to our parents this year - stay tuned!
Live Life Well at School
Our school received funding in 2014 to train two staff
members (Mrs Commins and Mrs Kimber) in the ‘Live
Life Well’ program. This program fits perfectly with our
whole school focus on developing a whole school
ethos on promoting healthy eating habits and an
active lifestyle. Our school featured in the latest Live
Life Well newsletter, which detailed our lunch time
changes last year. We have certainly noticed a big
difference since this occurred. You can read about this
by visiting:

ANZAC services
Thank you to our wonderful students who participated
in the Junee ANZAC march. We were very proud of the
way you represented Junee North and the wonderful
respect shown throughout the service.
Captains Daminica, Patrick and Nick proudly lead our
school.
Reports
At the end of this term parents will receive a report
outlining their child’s progress. This year, due to the
implementation of new Australian Curriculum in
English and Mathematics, we have had to alter our
previous report templates. We are bound to
incorporate a grading system (determined by the
Department of Education) that teachers must use to
indicate the level of achievement in each curriculum
area. Staff at Junee North believe that we provide a
much more comprehensive report than the standard
one used by most schools. We have incorporated
specific indicators in English and Mathematics (based
on our new syllabus) to provide parents with much
more information about their child’s progress. A
sample copy of our report is being sent home this
week, along with an accompanying explanation. If any
parents require further explanation, please feel free to
come in and chat with me. I will also be running a
parent information session on our assessment and
reporting system on Friday 22 May at 1:30.

Congratulations to our boys who were selected to trial
for the Riverina Rugby League team: Brock Chisholm,

teams who played their hearts out last Friday! A special
congratulations to the girls’ team who forged a
resounding victory over Junee Public 4 – 0.
Unfortunately our boys’ were defeated, but put in a
huge team effort. The girls will now move on to Round

Our victorious girls! Well done!
A great effort boys!

What’s happening in our school?
Reading Recovery
For many years Junee North has conducted the
Reading Recovery program. Reading Recovery is a
program designed to assist those Year 1 students who
just need a boost along with their reading. Reading
Recovery lessons are conducted one-to-one every day,
with home follow-up activities providing that extra
practice. Mrs Alison Higginson has been conducting
our Reading Recovery sessions for several years now
and is a very experienced practitioner. As well, many
other staff members are trained in Reading Recovery
enabling them to bring these skills into their
classrooms to benefit all students. Reading Recovery is
a wonderful program that continually produces
amazing results.
Junior is just one of several of our Year 1 students
making wonderful progress through Reading Recovery
sessions.
Parents as helpers
We love having parents coming along to assist in any
way they can at Junee North. Several of our teachers
welcome parents as helpers during reading groups. As
well, 5/6S have been fortunate to have assistance in
several ways. Dr Matthew Collins visits each week to
assist with their computer skills; Mr Otoa Tulaga has
shared his rugby experiences with some much –
enjoyed sports skill sessions; Mrs Natasha Harpley has
conducted netball skills sessions and Mr Anthony
Fitzgerald assisted with cricket skills last term. If any
parents are keen to get involved or have a skill to share
please get in touch. We are always very appreciative –
and the children just love it!

Tiptoe through the classroom!
5/6S have been enjoying a very unique experience over
the past few weeks – Ukulele instruction from visiting
teacher Mrs Trish Davies. Even after just a few weeks,
the progress has been great – stay tuned for an
upcoming performance!!

Visual Art creations
3/4D have been creating some amazing 3D sculptures
recently. They began with paper sculptures and then
last week put their creativity to the test to come up
with these unbelievable wire and foil creations. They
are very keen to show them off at their assembly in
Week 5!
3/4D creations – just amazing!
P&C News Wood Raffle
This term we will be holding a raffle with the prize
being a trailer load of wood. Tickets will be sent home
shortly and we would ask that our families support us
by selling their book of tickets. The raffle will be drawn
on the night of our Trivia Night.
Trivia Night
Our P&C is currently organising a Family Trivia Night.
The trivia night will be held on Saturday 13 June (final
venue and start time to be confirmed). This will be a
fabulous family fun night. Stay tuned for more details
but make sure you lock in the 13th
June on your
calendar!
Canteen Update
At Tuesday night’s P&C meeting we had 2 guest
speakers from the Community Centre to discuss our
proposed ‘Meal Deal’ program. We are aiming to kick
this off very soon. This will involve a team of
community members coming into the canteen once
each fortnight and providing a healthy lunch meal for
our students. Students will be able to pre-order from a
set menu for the following week. In conjunction with
this we have had an expression of interest to re-
establish our canteen, as well as lots of interest from
several of our mums willing to volunteer to assist. We
are looking at finalising details on this at our next P&C
meeting. In the meantime, if any parents are happy to
help out at our canteen, please fill in the ‘Canteen
Helper’ form being sent home this week and return it
to the office.
Fundraising Ideas
We have several other fundraising ideas in the pipeline
for this year. On Sunday 2 August we have secured a
spot to run a BBQ at Bunnings in Wagga. We are in
discussions regarding a possible fundraising calendar,
a Canberra bus trip and a Cadbury chocolate
fundraiser. Lots of things happening and we will need
the support of all of our families to assist in whatever
way they can.
Next meeting
Our next meeting is being held on Tuesday 26 May,
commencing at 6:30 pm.

Kindergarten 2016
Enrolments are now being taken for our
2016 Kindergarten. Often parents feel they
need to wait until the end of the year, but
the earlier we get enrolments the sooner we
can start making plans and touching base
with our new families regarding our Transition programs. If your child, or your
friend’s child, is starting Kindergarten in 2016, please come in and collect an
enrolment pack, or phone our office on
69241839.
Our Kinders love our Better Buddies program (and so do
the big buddies!)
Thumbs Up!
A big thumbs up to all of our mums! Have a
lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday. We hope
you get very spoiled!
