National Environmental Policy Act of 1969

Clean Water Act

•Must evaluate potential for impacts to waters of the US, including wetlands and streams•Must consider avoidance of impacts•Look for ways to minimize impacts•If impacts are required, must provide compensatory mitigation.

Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act

•Must evaluate potential for impacts to historic resources determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

•Consider avoidance, minimization and mitigation of all impacts.

•Coordinate with the State Historic Preservation Officer.

•Coordinate with federally recognized tribes with interests in Georgia.

Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act

•Must evaluate the potential for project impacts on Federal and State protected species.

•Must coordinate with the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

•Each project must have an effects determination made by the lead federal agency.
