AUDIENCE:
General public, music-lovers, interested customers, broad range of people.PURPOSE:
CD Cover booklet- presents information about the title of the CD, tracks on the CD (traditionally lyrics are included), song-writer information.CONTEXT:
Source of entertainment, leisurely activity to listen to music- Information should be brief but helpful- Design should be appealing and interesting
Getting the Reader’s Focus
Size: Every page includes same format, same size picture, redundancy
Contrast: Dark background, vibrant middle
Position: Centered, guiding focus to the middleForm: Weight, Space, Mood
Boxes: Box around picture in the middle on every page
Content: Handwritten type, vibrant picture, sometimes lyrics camouflaged in dark background
Space & Grid
Grid: A CD booklet is usually 4x4 inches.
Placement: Centered – Pictures are placed in the center of the pages, roughly-drawn square falls in the four middle squares of grid.
Blank Space: There is a lot of blank space but it emphasizes center information
Format: Title, Picture, Credits & Song information
Type & Colours
Type: The type used on the CD booklet are Script Faces that simulate hand writing.
- For music information (i.e. length of song, instruments, vocals), a mix of serif and non-serif fonts are used.
Colour: Warm colours are used
REDS, ORANGES, YELLOWS
Front Cover uses Neutral colours: Black, Gray, White
-Colour creates a more serious tone, reflective mood.-Gradients are used for the mysterious, aura-effect
