• Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)
• Type 2 Diabetes
• Type 1:• 3 million Americans
• Around 80 people per day in the U.S. are
diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes
• Type 2
Type 1 vs. Type 2Type 1 (Juvenile):• Pancreas stops making
insulin – diabetics must get it from an outside source
• Not contagious – can’t catch it like a cold
• Can’t get it from eating too much sugar
• Doctors still working to find out the cause
Type 2:• Pancreas still makes insulin
– isn’t enough, body can’t use it correctly
• There are many different causes of Type 2 diabetes
• Sometimes, Type 2 can be prevented through exercise and healthy eating

• Eat food• Sugar → bloodstream• Pancreas makes insulin• And Turns the Key • Sugar gets into our cells and we use it for energy

Walking shows support…and it’s good exercise!
• Everybody gets an envelope to take home
• Inside are paper sneakers for donations
• Talk to your mom or dad about asking people to donate
• You can ask grandparents, neighbors, friends, everybody!
• Never go alone!
• Put their name on a sneaker & put the money in the envelope
• Return the envelope to your teacher by the due date
• You can also raise money online at: www.jdrf.org/kidswalk
• Ask your parent to help you register
• You can create your own fundraising page and email friends and family to ask for their support!
