wedding bands:

The wedding band became a symbol of marriage in ancient times. Wedding bands were considered a gift from a man to a woman as a symbol that he trusted her. The wedding band also showed the public that a woman was married and should be left alone by suitors.

Engagement rings:

An engagement ring is a ring indicating that the person wearing it is engaged to be married. Engagement rings are traditionally worn only by women in a number of cultures. Rings can feature diamonds or other gemstones
