- 6. EXAMPLES Spelling Boards Give students a list of words to
practice. These should be high frequency words or words from the
text you are reading in class. Divide the class into groups, giving
each group a small white board, marker and eraser. Announce the
word. Within the group, members have to take turns spelling the
word correctly. The teacher tells everyone to hold up the boards.
The teams with correctly spelled words receive points.
- 7. Word Wall Relay Word walls help students practice
vocabulary. These are useful for visual learners and must be kept
current with words that are studied within the lesson. To practice
vocabulary and learn new words, divide the class into two or more
teams. One person from each team goes to the word wall. The teacher
reads a definition and the students have to touch the matching
word. The interaction creates excitement while students learn new
words and meanings.
