Follow – to subscribe to another user’s tweets

Follower – another Twitter user who is following you

Tweep or Tweeple – one who posts and/or reads tweets

Handle – a user’s username

Tweet – a message posted via Twitter

140 characters or less

Timeline – a real-time list of tweets on Twitter Home timeline – a real-time list of tweets from those that you follow

Chat – a scheduled “conversation” on a common topic

“@” – used to call out usernames and link to their profile

“@username message” – directs a tweet to another user

“message @username” – a mention

“#” – used to mark keywords or topics in a tweet “#jobs” – generally tweets about job opportunities

Navigate to http://twitter.com

Select the yellow button on the right hand side of the page

Twitter will try to make suggestions on topics and people to follow

I recommend ignoring this by clicking on “Next Step”

Once you confirm the email that twitter sent, you are ready to begin

Click on either of the options under set up your profile This is one of the ways that people will find you

Click on “Who to Follow”

Click “Follow” to follow

Find people tweeting about Cincinnati entertainment

Review suggestions that Twitter makes

Search Operators job search = containing both “job” and “search” (default)

“happy hour” = containing the exact phrase “happy hour”

love or hate = containing either “love” or “hate” (or both)

beer –root = containing “beer” but not “root”

“happy hour” near:”Cincinnati, OH” – containing the phrase “happy hour” and sent near “Cincinnati, OH”

#haiku – marked with the keyword “haiku”

@mashable – referencing user “mashable”

Click on “Create a List” in the drop-down box

Give list a name (Mark as “public” or “private”)

Click on “following” to add names from list

Click on list icon next to person

Select desired list from drop-down box

A person may be in more than one list

Filter tweets by clicking on List tab and then selecting desired list

Connect to your audience

Ask questions that invite discussion

Be transparent Be yourself

Don’t pretend
