Százhalombatta

Százhalombatta is situated 30 kilometres to the south of Budapest. With its nearly twenty

thousand inhabitants is a dynamically developing young town of the Transdanubian

territory of Hungary.

The history of Százhalombatta dates back to several thousands of years. Százhalombatta has received

its name from the over hundred Iron Age tumuli which can be found in the archaeologycal park in the

Old Town.

The archaeological park

At the northern part of the border of the town we can

find the Archaeological Park , which was the first

prehistoric,open-air museum of our country.

Matrica Museum

Matrica Museum bears the roman name of the town. Marica itself was

a flourishing settlement for 300 years in the 1-4th centuries AD. In

the museum we can see the several-thousand-year-old history of

the town.

There are four churches in the town.

Saint Stephen Square

It is the main square of the town. The recently renewed square has become

one of the symbols of Százhalombatta. With its fountains,flower beds,statues it offers a a special experience and it is always good to pass over the main

square.

Százhalombatta,the energetic town

Százhalombatta has been an industrial town since the second

part of the 20th century. It has an oil refinery and a power plant.

• There are several entertainment possibilities in our town. For example: a sport centre,swimming pools, a lido,etc. Its restaurants and inns are very popular among the inhabitants.

• We can find 5 schools and 6 kindergartens in Százhalombatta.

• The Barátság Culture Centre is in the centre,next to the main square. Here are a lot of culture programmes are organized throughout the year such as dance shows.

Summerfest International Folklore Festival and Folk Art

Fair (12-21 August)

The festival is one of the most significant festivals of Europe. Large-scale folk dance galas in which the dancers of 20 countries from five continets can be seen, the star

performers of folk and world music concerts await the visitors.

Blooming town

Százhalombatta has also won the ‘Blooming town of

Hungary’ prize in 2011.
