Topic : FLY ASH AS A WOOD SUBSTITUDE

Guide by: Presented by : Mr.D.D.JOSHI RANJEET PADOL

-Fly ash is a waste material from thermal power plants. - which forces a great disposalProblem besides causing atmospheric pollution

-India’s 82 utility and more than 25 captive thermal power plants contribute more than 70 Percent to the countries total electric power installed capacity (approx 100,000 MW). In fact about 240 million tonnes of coal is being used every year to generate electricity.

INTRODUCTION :

FLY ASH:

Fly ash is defined as “A finely divided residue that results from the combustion of ground or powdered coal and is transported from the combustion chamber by exhaust gases”.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF INDIAN FLY ASH-

-Silica (SiO2) 49-67

-Alumina (Al2O3) 16-29

-Iron Oxide (Fe2O3) 4-10

-Calcium Oxide (CaO) 1-4

-Magnesium Oxide (MgO) 0.2-2

-Sulphur (SO3) 0.1-2

-Loss of Ignition 0.5.3.0

USES OF FLYASH:

- FLY ASH IS A BUILDING MATERIAL

- FLY ASH CLAY BRICKS

- HOLLOW BLOCKS

- FLY ASH CELLULAR CONCRETE

- USE AS PART REPLACEMENT OF CEMENT / MANUFACTURE OF CEMENT:

- FLY ASH LIGHT AGGREGATE

- FLY ASH EMULSION PAINTS /BUILDING DISTEMPERS:

- FLY ASH AS WOOD SUBSTITUTE MATERIAL

USE:A very good wood substitute for doors, windows, ceiling, partitions, furniture, etc.

FLY ASH AS WOOD SUBSTITUTE MATERIAL:

SALIENT FEATURES:-Environment friendly technology.-Fruitful utilization of industrial wastes such as fly ash.-Energy efficient production technology.-Products stronger than woods.-Weather resistant and durable.-Termite, Fungus, rot and rodent resistant.-Fire resistant.-Cheaper than natural wood.-Less maintenance cost.

EFFECT OF FLY ASH IN AGRICULTURE:

i) Modification of soil texture-

ii) Modification of bulk density-

iii) Water holding capacity of soil-

iv) Soil Ph-

v) Effect on soil crust-

CONCLUSION:

The future poses challenges to the scientists, technologists, engineers towards sound management of fly ash disposal & deposition technologies. The problem is not due to lack of technical competence but more of adoption, implementation and better management of improved & appropriate technologies.
