SALZKAMMERGUT

The Salzkammergut comprises ten regions in Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria. The largest part of the region belongs to Upper Austria. The diverse land-scape is divided into three areas: the relatively flat foothills of the Alps to the North, the low mountain range of the "Flyschzone" and the alpine region of the northern limestone alps.

The about 80 lakes of different sizes, of which many also offer scheduled shipping traffic, and the count-less hiking and outdoor sporting opportunities make the Salzkammergut region a worthy holiday destina-tion.

Ever since 3000 B.C. the Illyrians won salt in the re-gion around the town of Hallstatt. Today, people are still winning salt in the region and a day-trip to one of the salt mines is a must, if you are vacationing in the Salzkammergut region. Besides the "how to" of win-ning salt, one can also learn about the healing prop-erties of salt.

Here you will also find the incredible caves of the Dachstein mountain: the mammoth and giant ice caves.

The name of the Salzkammergut region dates back to the Habsburg family, who called their property "Salzkammergut". The Austrian Emperor Franz Jo-seph I spent 82 summers in Bad Ischl. To celebrate this, every year the town hosts the so-called "Kaisert-age" (or Emperor Days) in the majestic imperial sum-mer residence.

Chinese tourists have fallen in love with Hallstadt in their own special way: in 2012, the city Bulou in the Guangdong Province built an exact copy of Hall-stadt.

This e-book will give you an overview of this beautiful region and was produced in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Railways (OEBB), Salzkammergut Tourism and the local tourism organisations.

THE VIENNA-CARD

The Vienna-Card includes unlimited transportation within the entire pub-lic transit network of Austria's capital. There are two types of cards, valid either 48 or 72 hours.

Visitors can purchase the Vienna-Card in hotels, at the Tourist Informa-tion office at Albertinaplatz, at the Main Station as well as at the airport. The Vienna-Card can also be purchased at all Wiener Linien sales and information booths as well as through their online store.

The Vienna-Card offers more than 210 specials when visiting one of the many museums, sights, theatres or concerts. Benefits include dis-counts at cafes, restaurants, or at one of the traditional Viennese "Heuriger" (wine tavern).

A manual for the Vienna-Card can be found in the 120-page coupon booklet that is handed out to every purchaser of the card.

Detailed information about the Vienna-Card can also be found on video on this website. The Vienna-Card will make your holiday in Vienna even more beautiful.

The Vienna-Card can be or-dered in the web shops of Wie-ner Linien as well as via wien.info online. To order, sim-ply click on one of the logos.

For travellers from Linz, the AIRail offer, which can be booked on www.austrian.com or your travel agents, was made even more attractive. The ticket machines at the travel centre at Linz Main Sta-tion let you check in and your boarding pass is also a ticket for your train-flight-connection. AIRail travellers can find their reserved seat in First Class and Economy Class trains.

AIRAIL

DIRECTLY TO THE AIRPORT

The state capitals Bregenz, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Linz and St. Pölten have been offering direct connections to Vienna Airport since 2015. If you are coming from Graz, you can take one of the two daily di-rect railjet trains to the airport (RJ656 and RJ755).

OEBB offer a total of 51 daily direct connections between Salzburg and Vienna Airport.

The railjet trains takes you from Salzburg to Vienna Airport in 2 hours and 49 minutes.

The 17 travel centres on many Austrian train stations offer everything you need for a private or business trip by train. Because of the close cooperation with the Austrian Federal Railways, they offer interesting combinations on a regular basis. I personally took advantage of the experience of the travel centres on many of my travels.

Rail Tours specialised on trips by train. Everything comes from one source and the traveller can benefit from one single contact person who takes care of virtually everything: the train tickets and the hotel at your destination. Rail Tours offers special city trip combinations to many cities all over Europe. Combinations of sport, culture, or a sim-ple trip with an old steam-powered locomotive - this is where travel-ling by train is at home.

Travelling by train is something very special and one of the means of travel that are stress-free. Short check-in times, arrivals and depar-tures are usually close to city centres and space and legroom are simply more comfortable on a train.

Tran aficionados can find all information about international dream trains on the website. You can even book your ticket right there, from steam-powered locomotive to Trans-Siberian Railway.

Your trip by OEBB Rail Tours can be booked via the OEBB cus-tomer service hotline at 05 1717 3, at all travel agencies at the train station or directly via e-mail at kombitickets@railtours.oebb.at. The website of OEBB Rail Tours can be found at www.railtours.at.

Many AuVi publications include videos and maps that can be enlar-ged at the push of a button. These functions are best used on Apple devices (iOS 9 and higher). The PDF-versions don't offer as much as of yet, but I am hoping that this will improve over time.

Optimised for iPad and iPhone

Social media

If we want the images to look even more life-like, we use HDR pro-jects and to reduce image noise on pictures with low light, DENO-ISE is used. For panorama pictures, Autopano Giga is one of the best tools on the market. Links for free trial versions of this soft-ware can be found on our website.
