In northern Romania, at the Ukrainian border, lies the county of Maramures. Here, amidst mountains, hills and depressions are one of the most interesting tourism objects in the country, yet very well kept. Here, people lead their lives as authentically and peacefully as in the old times. Maramures is not only a tourist attraction: it’s the very symbol of Romanian tradition and continuity. Maramures is one of the few places in Romania where traditions are still kept and respected, as they were hundreds of years ago.

Comuna Călineşti este situată în partea de nord a judeţului Maramureş, în depresiunea Maramureşului, pe valea Cosăului şi respectiv valea Veleniului. Comuna (compusă din trei sate, cu o colectivitate umană în întregime română), este atestată documentar, potrivit documentelor din „Istoria Maramureşului" - Dr. Alex. Filipaşcu, începând cu anul 1381.
