It's been a busy year here, partly due to the success of the Nissan Pulsar. Everyone who enters our showroom has been impressed with it's dynamic styling and huge space for both passengers and cargo alike. It bridges the gap in Nissan's range between the medium sized city car and the larger crossover vehicles, but although this is a practical family saloon it doesn't compromise on style, the clever Nissan technology that comes as standard also make this a real contender for the modern UK family.

In fact the Nissan brand as a whole has had a good 6 months setting a new record for 88,000 vehicles sold gaining 6.1% of the passenger car market making it the 4th highest retail share in the market. Nissan’s total market share (passenger car and LCV) has also grown, by 0.4% this year to a whopping 5.7% making Nissan the fastest growing top 10 brand, overtaking Audi, Mercedes and BMW. Also half year sales confirm Nissan’s position as the market leader in the pure electric car sector, with total UK sales of the all-electric Nissan LEAF at over 10,000 units since launch, plus the Qashqai is still proving to be a very popular car and is now the 5th best-selling car in the UK, overtaking the Vauxhall Astra. Nissan’s Juke and X-Trail also secured significant sales gains in June making this sizzling summer even more exciting. Nissan is set to attack the Nurburgring front-wheel-drive record with a Nissan Pulsar Nismo packing 275bhp.

Nissan is preparing to mix it with the hot hatch big boys by launching a Nismo-tuned version of its new Pulsar hatch. And we won’t have to wait long to see it – a full production version of the Nissan Pulsar Nismo will debut at October’s Paris Motor Show, although you won’t be able to buy one for another 12 months.

Our exclusive images show how the Pulsar hatch will be transformed into an aggressive performance car with a trademark red and white Nismo makeover, a low-riding body kit and bigger wheels.

Of course, there’s more to performance than just power, so both versions will come with bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, lower ride heights and recalibrated steering and gearboxes than the standard Pulsar.

Nissan’s chief planning officer and executive vice president, Andy Palmer says: “The focus is on accessible excitement [with Nismo], but we also need to demonstrate we can go head-to-head with the best in the business.

And if the Pulsar Nismo can deliver on the track while undercutting models like the £26,330 Golf GTI or £22,295 Focus ST, Nissan will have achieved just that!

NISSAN RETHINKS THE COMPACT HATCHBACK - INTRODUCING THE SWAY

Innovative design and product planning gave birth to the Qashqai and Juke, two of the biggest automotive success stories in recent years. Now Nissan has applied the same radical thinking to one of the most important sectors of the market: the compact hatchback.

Unveiled at the Geneva Show, the Sway is a glimpse at how a future generation of compact Nissan models might look if the company's striking new design language was applied to a European hatchback. It is a concept car designed especially to appeal to European tastes: it is seen as emotional, edgy and exciting.

Sway has been designed to shake up the compact hatchback segment, traditionally a conservative sector of the market. With its swooping lines, striking nose, elegantly simple interior and bold use of sophisticated colours.

The Sway's character line begins with the V-motion grille, mounted low at the front between twin V-shaped quarter bumpers. The grille is the starting point for a bold contour that curves over the bonnet and front wheels before dipping dramatically towards the centre of the front door. It then sweeps upwards towards the rear of the car, giving the side profile an almost sensuous form.

It sits proud of the bonnet before leading into a distinct -and sharp - crease down the car's waistline... a waistline that is pinched by the rising indented triangular sill feature.

Alongside the V-motion grille sit the boomerang headlamps. Usually the boomerang shape is created by the use of LED lamps within a more conventional lamp shape: this time the lamps themselves take the signature shape, while the LEDs within create the impression of a pair of eyes, watching.

The signature boomerang tail-lights are equally dramatic, dissecting the rear three-quarter elements of the car. Twin trapezoidal exhaust pipes emerge from either side of the registration plate housing towards the middle of the rear section rather than underneath the bumper.

Complex rear doors house not only the extended sill and waistline crease, but also the shapely flared fenders needed to cover the rear wheels. An upward flick towards the rear of the glass-line reduces the C-pillar between the door and the floating roof to a minimum. To ease ingress and egress, this concept car has no central B-pillar and rear-hinged back doors.

Another feature of Nissan's new design language is the floating roof, which is expressed this time by a panoramic glass roof, framed by an extended C-shaped construction running from the A-pillars along the side of the roof to the rear cross link above the tailgate. On the concept car this structure is highlighted by the use of a bold orange colour that contrasts with the blue-grey of the body. Extra rigidity is provided by a distinctive deformed X-structure in the centre of the roof with the crossing point of the ‘X' sitting above the front seat passengers.

GORDON LAMB NISSAN MAKE A KNOCKOUT APPOINTMENT – FORMER OLYMPIC BOXER, DAVID SPENCER, WAS PICKED FOR GREAT BRITAIN BOXING SQUAD’S B TEAM FOR LONDON 2012.

Having enjoyed early success at the sport, the 21-year-old has now changed direction and joined Gordon Lamb Nissan, in Chesterfield, as a sales executive.

David, a former light welterweight who teaches boxing at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, said: “I have been boxing since I was 12. It started off as a hobby but I then got more and more into it.

“It was great to be picked for London 2012, but I knew it wasn’t going to be a full-time career. I’m loving my new job at Gordon Lamb Nissan. Sometimes selling cars can be tougher than being in the boxing ring, but I hope to leave all the competition on the ropes.”

David, a graduate of Sheffield Hallam University, was picked for Team GB’s boxing squad after competing well at several tournaments. Although he didn’t bout at the Olympics, he was a stand-by team member who trained and mixed with the squad.

Jon Sudbury, Dealer Principal at Gordon Lamb Nissan, said: “David’s boxing background makes him a great salesman. You need to have that hunger, desire and stamina to succeed in this job, and he’s got it all. He’s a great young man who is a delight to have working in our dealership.”

OLYMPIC BOXING CHAMP JOINS GORDON LAMB NISSAN

Mark Copcutt has only been at Gordon Lamb 4 short months but he's made a big impression on our customers. Mark started his career in the motor trade as a 'Body Technician' where he repaired and painted both Toyota and Porsche brand cars.

Back in 2004 fate almost played a hand in preventing Mark from even joining the car industry! He was on holiday in the far east when the Boxing Day Tsunami struck and narrowly avoided disaster whilst witnessing the devastation it caused at first hand.

An undersea megathrust was caused when a huge earthquake triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most land-masses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing 230,000 people in 14 countries, and inundating

coastal communities with waves up to 30 metres high. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history. Indonesia was the hardest-hit country. Lucky to get out alive Mark seems to continually court danger having voluntarily swam with sharks whilst on a gap year in Australia too!

When Mark isn't facing death, he likes to keep fit by mountain biking, swimming and running. Marks says "I’ve completed the Great North Run 4 times and this year will be the 5th!" The Great North Run, half marathon, was first staged in 1981 where just over 12,000 people took part on the 13.1 mile course from Newcastle upon Tyne to South Shields. "I love to run, and Newcastle has some fantastic views, I think that's what makes it all the more enjoyable". We'll take your word for it Mark!

When he isn't keeping fit, self confessed 'foodie' Mark loves dining out in all the fine dining restaurants the region has to offer. We asked Mark what his favourite dish was: "As a big foodie that is a very hard question because there’s a myriad fine dishes". So I guess the jury's still out on that one then!

Mark's favourite films are the Madagascar animated series, in particular the crazy penguins. Mark loves to relax with his daughter and watch these movies. He says "Spending time with my little girl and seeing her happy is one of my greatest joys".

Mark's favourite car is the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS in white, although he's more than happy with his Nissan Qashqai 1.2 Tekna in Storm White.

We're all glad here at Gordon Lamb Nissan that Mark's keeping himself 'on brand'.
