ENVISION - 2008 ,the brainchild of XSYS - the Systems committee of XIMB is a National Level Information Technology Summit and was started last year as an initiative to expose budding managers of the future generations to the various aspects of Information Technology from its diverse opportunities to challenges. IT has gone beyond the binary systems of 1s and 0s and has evolved into a bare necessity for all organizations.

The eminent Speakers last year were Mr. Arun Pingley from IFLEX, Mr. Santosh Mohanty from TCS, Mr. Srinivasan Komanduri from Deloitte, Mr. Abhijit Sen Infosys, Mr. Sanjoy Mohanty from Little World and Mr. Sudipta Ghosh from Wipro.

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) was established in 1987 by the Orissa Jesuit Society, through a social contract with the Government of Orissa. Since then, the Institute has been widely recognized for its excellence and is counted among the leading management institutions in the country. It offers an enriching array of programmes – the flagship programme, the Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), the Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM), the Part-Time Programme for Working Executives (PGDM-PT), Management Development Programmes, Postgraduate Certificate Programme in Business Management (PGCBM), and the doctoral level Fellow Programme Management (FPM). It has pro-duced some of the nations great managers for more than 20 years.

1 0 Be it defining and aligning business goals, organization strategies, doing business real time/online or expanding business beyond boundaries, IT has have revolutionized the way business is done today and touched lives across the world in myriad number of ways. Envision-09 provides an opportunity to young managers to understand IT from organizational and corporate standpoint by inviting eminent personalities and academia to share their wisdom and experiences in the field of IT. We will use last year’s experience and take Envision one step higher this time. As a pre-cursor to Envision-2009, XSYS launches a Paper writing competition on issues relevant to the theme of Envision-2009. Apart from winning cash prizes, the best 3 articles will be published in coming corporate edition of X-ITe, the Quarterly Magazine of XSYS. X-ITE aims at acting as a knowledge repository for happenings in the world of IT and provides a peek into the future it upholds.

With the economies showing signs of recovery from the recession that gripped the world so tight until recently, IT can play a very crucial role in reviving and rejuvenating organizations .It has the potential to provide a winning and sustainable edge to organi-zations during challenging times.

Starting with the definition of IT leadership, aligning IT with businesses, this can go on to encompass other crucial aspects like skills for becoming an effective IT leader, increasing quality of IT services and driving business efforts towards building more sustainable and resilient systems. This would give us a fair picture of how Information Technology can help in defining policies, tactics, strategies and objectives for an organization to emerge and persist as a leader in its business.

1 0 XSYS– The Systems Association of XIMB

XSYS is a wholly student managed body with an emphasis on learning beyond the books. XSys is truly instrumental in promot-ing Systems related activities on campus. XSys's activities spill over from the arena of academics into practical training in the systems area. Come Xpressions, the annual fest of XIM, XSys makes its pres-ence felt by conducting several Systems based games & quizzes. Panel Discussions and Paper Presentations with eminent luminar-ies from the IT world grace the occasion with their presence and participation.

On the whole, it is an organization that works with the students towards an objective of inculcating the discipline and knowledge required to appreciate the workings of the exciting world of Systems.
