SuggestionsThink about how you want to use S.N.

Do you want to use a variety of tools, or focus on one?

How much time do you want to spend, reading?

How much time do you want to spend, writing?

What’s the easiest thing you can do?

Dip your toe in, the water’s warm!

Steps to take

Select your tool/media [Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc.]

First, go to settings and set your various preferences

Second, find a photograph and upload it.

Aggregate your S.N. Tools

Page 22: Social Networking: De-Mystifying the Trend

Set up a QuicKey/Tool to automatically open S.N. sites each day [close them if you don’t want to post]

Connect these S.N. tools together, e.g., so when you Twitter and it goes to Facebook

Read others’s comments & postings [scan for what you want/need]

See what you can respond to or create your own new message

Use RSS feeds or other tools to cut down on email use.

Rules to Follow

As with anything on the internet, the first step is to go to Settings and fill in your preferences [more or less privacy, who sees what, notifications]

Remember: Once it is on the Internet, it is there forever and it is open to [almost] anyone.

If it doesn’t pass the “Mom Test”, don’t do it.

The Summary

Social Networking is a ‘new media’ method of communication which relies on interactivity

There is an overwhelming number of options, some more general in nature and some focused upon a certain use.

If you use more than one method, find a way to connect them so you can post to one and have it show up in the other, too. One post cross-pollinates.
