For a resume to achieve results online, some employer:
has got to be desperate to find someone like you; and has got to be at the point, in their search for someone like you, that they are reduced
to reading resumes (many employers' least favorite way of filling a position; they'll try anything else, first, since they regard the task of reading resumes as just this side of having a root canal); and then this employer
has got to go online looking for a resume-posting site (and remember, there are at least 10 million U.S. employers – not to mention other countries – who don't even think of the Internet when it's time to hire); but if they do, then this employer
has got to stumble across the site where you posted your resume – and there are hundreds of such sites on the Internet; and then this employer
has got to accidentally stumble across your resume on that site; and then this employer
has got to take the time and trouble to read it; and then this employer has got to take the time and trouble to print it out, in all its blah ASCII sameness;
and then this employer has got to decide, after studying it, that they like it enough to invite you in.
