For my magazine
• I wanted to portray an artist who looked like he didn’t care, as is conventional to the indie genre. I achieved this by using blank facial expressions and certain clothing styles.
• I think that I have given her a laid back attitude whilst still representing an aspect of female power.
• The artist is not looking directly at the camera to connote his lack of interest in the subject, this is typical of the genre and represents the audience and readers of my magazine.
Not looking at camera
connotes lack of caring

Vibrant t-shirt typical of

Colours connote power
For my magazine
• For my contents page, I have kept it very minimalistic. In the one representation that I do have, I have chosen this because of its extreme indie-ness. It is indie because it is in an unusual setting with an alternative girl.
• Using the microphone as a prop represents her as an artist who is very into her music.
• The expressionless look on her face is used to connoted again a similar image to the front page – one of the lack of care for everything.

Use of expression on faces not flowing with rest of magazine –
connection with audience. Represents as real people
For my magazine
• The way that I have represented these artists is dissimilar to the rest of the magazine.
• I have chosen to do this to make them stand out. • The regular clothes that they are wearing and
expressions on the faces of the individuals shows that they can identify with the audience and with the reader on a different level.
• They are still represented as indie as they are not looking at the camera and are more interested in their music however.
