Similarities

After evaluating both magazines (XXL), it is very explicit to me that both magazines are very similar in aesthetics and the use of a colours scheme. The masthead is behind the model as it emphasises the model. This will allow people to see the model before the masthead. The masthead and layout is always the same in each edition which allows customers to see the magazine from far.

Similar conventions used Clear Heading to attract brand loyal customers from far

Heading could be under the main image to give the main image more importance

Clear image to depict the individual and make him stand out

The colours used are aesthetically attractive and theme based to represent the seasonal vibe and Tupacs’ death.

Similarities include: short summaries of important eye attracting and knowledgeable RnB information which magazines such as vibe and XXL represent.

Similarities within

The colour scheme of the magazine has remained consistent with the theme used through out the magazine. The similarities in the front cover, contents page and DPS. All four pages are very consistent with the colour and layout. However, the colour isn’t directly similar to Q magazine, but the scheme of the colour coordination is similar. The magazine is slightly different from its competitors so the market has a new design variety. The difference between Elite magazine and its competitors is that, the competitors go crazy with the colours used and make their magazine look unprofessional in the cover page, contents and DPS. For example, XXL magazine change the colours they use very often and causes them to not have very strong house colours.

Differences

There are a couple of features that make my magazine unique, these include:

The image style, which shows the model ‘Jerimiah Santos’ posing on one side to give more significance to his wrist and his left side of his body.

Although my genre is Rnb and represents XXL I used conventions from Q magazine on the contents page and developed them in my own way so they work in my favour

Also

The images presented are relevant and create a story and show the headline of the story.
