3. Information regarding affiliating university

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU)(formerly UPTU) was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, vide Act Amendment No. 1156(2) LXXIX-V-1-15-1(Ka), 24-2015 dated Sept 9, 2015 Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam Sankhya 23 of 2000. Under the University Act, 'Technical Education' includes programmes of education, research and training in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts & Crafts and such other programmes and areas that the central Government may in consultation with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) by notification in Gazette declare.

The University is affiliating in nature and its jurisdiction spans the entire state of U.P. in affiliating B.Tech., M.B.A., M.C.A., B.Arch., B. Pharma., B.H.M.C.T., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes in 587 colleges/institutions imparting graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level training in all government and private institutions located all over U.P. in engineering, technology, architecture, pharmacy, hotel management and catering technology as well as M.B.A. and M.C.A. programmes.

AKTU was reconstituted as "Gautam Buddha Technical University, Lucknow" and "Mahamaya Technical University, Noida" on 1st May 2010 through amendment of U.P. Govt. vide act no. 05 of 2010, Subsequently U.P. Government again combined the Gautam Buddha Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University with effect from 1st Nov. 2013 vide amendment act 21st of 2013 and reconstituted A.K.T.U. Lucknow.

AKTU is currently located in Sec-11, Jankipuram, Vistar Yojna, PinCode-226031 in the Capital of U.P. at Lucknow but is in the process of having its own Headquarter building in its vicinity. UPTU also has a NOIDA Centre to facilitate closer academic and industrial interaction around that zone where a prominent cluster of private affiliated colleges exists.

Textile Technology Department

B. Tech in Textile Technology was started 1958 and is one of the oldest course of this institute of graduate level. Textile Technology basically deals with technology of spining, weaving. In modern days scope of textile technology has branded to included subject like geotextile, smart textiles, nano textiles etc.

At present this branch in most sought after branch of the institute. B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D. in textile technology is offered by institute with intake of 40 at B.Tech. level, 12 at M.Tech level.

Textile Chemistry Department

Textile chemistry department is one of the oldest departments of UPTTI. Kanpur, established in 1914. The department has formulated a dynamic and relevant curriculum for UG program being run in the institute, and possesses an excellent infrastructure. The basic aim of the department is to introduce new

combinations of theoretical studies, technologies in industrial application and research oriented activities. B.Tech., M.Tech and Ph.D. students are educated and trained to become world class technocrats .The department is globally recognize .

The department has suitable infrastructure supported by modern equipment to trained the students. The department imparts education in textile chemistry at UG,PG and Ph.D. level .The department has excellent research out puts that are comparable to any higher profile academic institution . The qualified and depicted faculty of this department has publish good number of research paper in national and inter national Journals.

Man Made Fibre Technology Department

The infrastructure and laboratory facilities are top most possessing equipments which covers maximum syllabus and practical work of relevant courses. Laboratory facilities also supports various research oriented tasks by Melt Spinning Unit - Pilot Plant, High Precision Water bath with glass viscometer, Digital Microscope with quartz compensator, Constant Temperature Silicon Oil Bath, Density Gradient Column, Sample Round Cutter, Bursting Strength Tester, Digital Melting Point Apparatus, Digital Hot Plate with magnetic stirrer, Water Purification System - Ultra Pure, Digital moisture analyzer.

Textile Engineering Department

The department of textile engineering was started in 2005 during TEQIP phase-I to provide technical man power to large number of textile manufacturing industries as well textile machine manufacturing industries in India. The department has intake of 40 students per year. Since its inception the department was able to provide almost 100% campus placement in renowned industries. A number of students also selected for higher studies from premier institute like IIT, for master's degree in engineering or management discipline.

Basic Science and Humanities Department

The Department of basic science is one of the oldest and most prominent departments of the institute. It started functioning at the time of establishment of the institute in the year 1914. Department of basic science is a combination of three department namely Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics and Department of Chemistry. Basic science department mainly taking care about the fundamental concepts of science and their applications in textile field. However humanities departments include, English and Management related subjects.

Engineering Department

The department is equipped for imparting education on the subjects related to Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering. Though we do not have separate branches for these yet there are subjects of these streams in the syllabus of all our other Textile branches.

The department is equipped with Mechanical and Electrical Laboratories, and Engineering workshop. A large computer Laboratory having access to all the students is available to cater for computing needs of textile students.

The department is also responsible for the availability of internet and intranet facility and is happy to announce that our campus has become fully Wi-Fi which is available to all stakeholders 24×7 throughout the year. The students have ample opportunities to access educational contents through the use of internet over Wi-Fi.

The department also have a language lab equipped with the state of the art Language Lab software for English fulfilling AICTE norms.

Advances in Textile Material and Processes 2018

BRIEFING ON ATMP 2018

The international conference on Advances in Textile Materials and Processes [ATMP-2018]

scheduled for 19-20 Nov 2018 being organised by UPTTI Kanpur, in collaboration with

TEQIP of IIT Kanpur will be held in the Outreach building of IIT Kanpur. In the inaugural

session Dr. N. Eswara Prasad, Director DMSRDE and Prof Abhay Karandikar, Director IIT

Kanpur was be present along with other dignitaries.

The conference had a sizeable presence of foreign delegates, Professors from IIT Delhi,

people in key positions in Indian Textile Industry. The first Plenery session will begin with a

lecture by Ullhas Nimkar, CMD NimkarTek Technical Services, Mumbai. His topic is

Clothing 9 billion sustainably: A challenge. He will be mainly discussing on the huge

challenges of modern day clothing and how to manage it for the growing world population.

The next talk will be by Professor Abdel-Fattah M Seyam, of North Carolina State

University, USA. He will be mainly discussing about improving weaving efficiency which

form an integral part of textile manufacturing chain. There will be parallel technical sessions

for both the days. Some of the prominent speakers will be Prof. Miroslav Václavík of VUTS,

Bhuvanesh Gupta and Prof. S. M. Ishtiaque from IIT Delhi. They will harp on some of the

major issues and developments in textiles ranging from modern weaving machines to 3D

fabrics, biopolymers and functional textiles. Prasad Pant, Director South-Asia ZDHC, will

share his views on responsible textile manufacturing through sustainable chemicals

management while Jayant Khera, Vice President, DyStar will speak on sustainable ways of

textile coloration. Speakers from different parts of the country will share their research

findings during the two day deliberation. There will also be a presentation by H&H Asia

Group Ltd, Hong Kong on stitch-less garments. At the venue there will be display of these

garments without a single seam, for the benefit of all participants. A separate Poster session

is also being organised to update people about some of the recent trends and research in

textile domain. Students will form a significant part of the target audience and hence will be

benefitted by this exposure to academicians, scientists, researchers and captains of industry.

We expect this event to be a game changer in terms of interdisciplinary work and research

pursuits for all concerned.
