The SGS SVHC SCREEN LITE SVHC SCREEN LITE SVHC SCREEN LITE SVHC SCREEN LITE program targets high risk substances in materials used in the textile and footwear

industry.

High risk substances relevant to the textile and footwear industry are selected from the SVHC Candidate List and

Consultation List (if applicable). This testing program is based on elements and considerations such as ECHA SVHC

Annex XV Dossiers, product recalls, NGO surveillance reports and SGS testing experience. The items selected are

usually found present or exceeding the requirement in recent product recalls and NGO surveillance reports.

Composite Testing Composite Testing Composite Testing Composite Testing is allowed up to 3 colors/substrates. If Composite testing results are ““““INTERIM FAILINTERIM FAILINTERIM FAILINTERIM FAIL””””,

individual testing is to be performed automatically to identify which particular color/substrate is “Fail”“Fail”“Fail”“Fail”.

When the Individual Lead in Paint and Substrate Requirements are 90ppm and 100 ppm respectively, the

composite testing requirements per CPSC shall be as follows (Calculation is based upon Smallest Sample

Weight) –

For 2-in-1 Composite

Lead in Paint Lead in Substrate Conclusion

< 72 ppm < 80 ppm Pass

72 ppm ≤ Results < 180 ppm 80 ppm ≤ Results < 200 ppm Interim Fail

≥ 180 ppm ≥ 200 ppm Fail

< 72 ppm < 80 ppm Pass

72 ppm ≤ Results < 270 ppm 80 ppm ≤ Results < 300 ppm Interim Fail

≥ 270 ppm ≥ 300 ppm Fail

PASS:PASS:PASS:PASS: Clear pass for all parts in the composite mix – The requirements are slightly lower to cover the margin of

error possible when mixing parts for a single test.

INTERIM FAIL:INTERIM FAIL:INTERIM FAIL:INTERIM FAIL: Results in this range are most likely a fail for all parts, but individual part re-testing can be

requested to confirm if any of the individual parts pass.

FAIL:FAIL:FAIL:FAIL: Clear fail for all parts in the composite mix – Based on the math, all parts would be over the allowable

individual limits.

Flammability Classification : Class VINCe’s Requirement : Class 1 (Pass) Remarks : Class 1 Normal Flammability Class 1 textiles exhibit normal flammability and are acceptable for use in

clothing. Class 2 Intermediate Flammability Class 2 fabrics, applicable only to raised fiber surface textiles, are

considered to be of intermediate flammability, but may be used for clothing. Class 3 Rapid and Intense Burning Class 3 textiles exhibit rapid and intense burning, are dangerously

flammable and shall not be used for clothing. * Drycleaning / Laundering procedure is according to 16 CFR 1610:6(b). Burn Code Description: For Plain Surface textile fabrics: DNI = Did not ignite IBE = Ignited, but extinguished

June 5, 2018 Page 61 of 107

_._ sec. = Actual burn time measured and recorded by the timing device.

For Raised Surface Textile Fabrics: SFuc = Surface flash, under the stop thread but does not break the stop thread SFpw = Surface flash, part way. No time shown because the surface flash did not reach the

stop thread.

SFpoi = Surface flash, at point of impingement only. (equivalent to ‘‘did not ignite’’ for plain surfaces).

_._ sec. = Actual burn time measured by the timing device in 0.0 seconds. _._ SFonly = Time in seconds, surface flash only. No damage to the base fabric. _._ SFBB = Time in seconds, surface flash base burn starting burning at place other

than the point of impingement as a result of surface flash. _._ SFBB poi = Time in seconds, surface flash base burn starting at the point of

impingement. _._ SFBB

poi* = Time in seconds, surface flash base burn possibly starting at the point of

impingement. The asterisk (*) denotes “Unable to make absolute determination as to source of base burns.”

As the test result is based on the composite sample and falls into an uncertain range, where “Pass” or “Fail” cannot be truly defined, an “Interim-Fail” (Inconclusive) is given. Due to the compositing the sample there is a possibility of failure according to the regulatory limit. Re-testing must be conducted as individual tests to determine the exact content of Pb in each individual component.

5. Fail = Conclusion is made based on the composite sample. Individual testing is recommended as to understand the exact content of Pb in each individual component.
