PROPOSED SOLUTIS:As the material of steel is same for both achor bolts and base plates so it is suggested to eliminates the nut and just use the 1" washer plate including the weld all around the washer and on top of it.

As the installed anchor bolts on grid line 2 ( Between gridlines B-E ) are +/- 1" lower
than proposed elevation so It will not be enough threads out for anchor bolts after
installing the washers and nuts.
Same situation for few other base plate's anchors on different locations which It will
not be enough threads out after installing the washer and nut. ( Please Advice ) Based
on this also the 2" indicated non-shrink grout underneath the base plate will be 3".
( PLease confirm )

January 09, 2017 Issued as response attachment to RFI #76 Re: GUSD Jefferson ES ORG response to RFI #76 DSA A#03-114361 Architect’s Response to RFI #076 DSA has approved the submitted CCD#010 which is now attached to the response to RFI#076. The CCD#010 addresses the grout and anchor bolt issues, but additional documentation for clarity has been provided as noted below. Testing shall be coordinated with the project Testing Lab and in keeping with Section #4 of DSA IR 17-8 (issued by DSA on 01-12-11). Below is from email of 12/23/2016, from Brad Brewer, NAC
• RFI#76: Low anchor bolts and grouting and shear lug o Chalmers confirmed that they will utilize “…we will use Sika 328 for locations that the grout
thickness is more than 2” “ o Chalmers confirmed the coupler nut solution is preferred, and steel fabricator provided
recommendation of coupler model number. Please confirm coupler meets ATSM parameters set in the DSA Approved CCD#010 (cut sheet documents for coupler provided by Chalmers are included in RFI#076 reference materials of response)
o Chalmers confirmed that the Steel Fabricator has enough tolerance, in keeping with the Contract Documents, to account for anchor bolts that are 1/8” short. (email from Chalmers is provide by Chalmers are included in RFI#076 reference materials of response)
NAC Response to RFI#076, as coordinated with KPFF Structural and discussed with GUSD, BPI and Chalmers. \\nac\100\it\nac-forms\2016-form-updates\don potts\new forms\word\general\letterhead.docx

Hello Brad,Please disregard anchors that are low 1/8”. After we sent you previous email, I talked to steel suband he told me that he has enough tolerance to adjust the 1/8”. So top of nut will be flush withanchor.Three steel plates on Grid line 2 are the ones that needed to be fix. Thank you, Sincerely, Ara BaghdasarianChalmers Construction Services Inc2600 Foothill Blvd. Suite 304La Crescenta CA 91214Office 818-957-4521Fax 818-957-4223Cell 818-220-2641

Hex couplers are used to connect two pieces of threaded material. Hex andheavy hex couplers are threaded right hand. If a right hand-left hand coupler isneeded, consider using a sleeve nut.
See our nut compatibility chart to determine the compatible hex coupler for aspecific grade of bolt. Since hot-dip galvanizing typically adds 2.2 to 5 mils ofthickness to the threaded portion of a fastener, galvanized couplers are tappedoversize to compensate for the corrosion resistant coating on the bolts.
