History of HalloweenHalloween, is celebrated on the night of October 31 It began in the 5th century BC in Celtic Ireland as the celebration of the Celtic new year on November 1st.
In the 1st century Halloween became a church holiday to honour of all the saints.
In the 1840`s the customs of Halloween was brought to America by Irish immigrantes.
Symbols Jack-o`lantern People celebrating Halloween carve a
pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their home's doorstep after dark.
Colours
Black and orange are the traditional colours of Halloween.
In modern Halloween hurple,green and red are also prominent.
Costumes
On Halloween night children dress up as creatures from underworld : ghosts, witches, vampires, skeletons and goblins.
Customs The houses are decorated by
carving pumpkins.
Children call their neighbours` homes and asks for treat, such as sweets, nuts, toffee apples.
People light bonfires and enjoy fireworks.
Children have noisy parties.
